Amazing on all levels! - Loved it all! The train is beautiful, the view is breathtaking, the food top notch and the staff wonderful! I can’t say enough about this experience. The prime rib was phenomenal! This isn’t your average dinner experience. First class all the way. Loved walking out to the open car and seeing the Royal Gorge Bridge from below. The river is right next to you and it’s just magical. Highly recommend.

A must do for everyone - The whole experience was amazing. The staff were very helpful, friendly and put us at ease about moving around as one of the people in our group is disabled. We appreciated the cart that picked us up and brought us back to the car after the long trip.  We were blown away by our meals we had on the first class car. Very impressive and well done with such elegance. Even the ambiance. Please thank all the employees for their physical help with my mom, their smiles and patience, humor and their knowledge of the history of the train and gorge. We will be talking about this for a very long time.

All aboard! First class fancy! - We had a great time on the railroad! We got sat with some awesome people that made the trip a lot of fun! We got stuck on the canyon side so a lot of rock out the window but the open car was a nice option. If you’re looking for a nice meal go first class. If we did this again, I would probably choose the vista dome option for more food choices and a better view. Watch out for full moons! 😂

Save Money- Ride Coach - The Royal Gorge was pretty. Dinner... was not worth $209/person. They claimed they were trying for the "real Pullman experience", and George Pullman would have hidden his face in shame. No linen, a quarter of a lettuce with five pieces of bacon bits and twelve croutons for a 'salad', an overcooked prime rib (as always, I ordered medium rare. I got... dull grey. I kept my mouth shut, I heard three other diners muttering to their table mates 'this is not medium' or 'this is not medium rare'. A fourth complained- loudly- and the waitress had no idea of what to do and stood there stammering "no, that's rare" when it clearly wasn't), runny mashed potatoes, and custard with berry compote- which was, admittedly, the best part of the meal, even if half of it slid down into the stem of the glass and was unreachable. The service- I've had better in the club car of an Amtrak. Besides the aforementioned having no idea how to handle the diner complaining about her steak, this waitress got through three tables (stopping to talk for ten minutes to one table in particular who had pre-ordered the hundred dollar bottle of wine and thus had it waiting on their table) before ours. There were four seats to a table, so understandably, we were seated with another couple. The waitress (not presenting the bottle lable so that we wouldn't see it was a $2.99 bottle of Korbel brut) sloshed the room-temperature complimentary champagne into four glasses without asking if anyone wanted it (I don't drink and would have refused had it been offered), took the diner on the outside aisle seat's order- rushed off to get her glass of water- and moved on to the next table without getting the drink orders for the diner's companion or myself and my companion. Ten minutes later, as she rushed past (as empty handed as she had come out of the galley car), my companion said loudly, "excuse me? Miss? Can we get a couple of waters?" "Oh, oh, sure, no problem." Five minutes later, she was back to ask if we wanted bottled or tap ("tap's fine, thanks"). The train began to move. The waitress came out of the galley car and stopped to talk to the table with the wine bottle for ten minutes. The waitress disappeared again. Fifteen minutes later, the salad arrived (note: half an hour after we had requested two waters) brought by a different server. "Anything else I can get you?" "Two waters, please." He disappeared for five minutes, then came back by as I was halfway through the aforementioned quarter of a head of lettuce to state that our waitress would bring our waters soon. Five minutes after the salad plates were removed, two glasses of water were dropped on the table with a blithe "sorry I got busy" (leaving a long smear that proved the bottoms of the glasses were wet on the plastic placemats as they slid across the table towards our fellow diners), and she was gone again. After the actual plates arrived with dinner, she stopped by the table every two minutes to ask if everything was all right- I guess the complaining other table and the expression of resignation my companion and I exchanged had convinced her that if she wanted a tip, she'd better get her act together. I was at least amused by how she described dessert to the hundred-dollar-wine-table during one of her lengthy sojourns to talk as "some sort of yogurt thing" to their audible shock and dismay- and audible relief when it turned out not to be. After dinner, we made our way out to the observation car for the last fifteen minutes of our train ride- and it was very pretty as twilight deepened and the moon rose over the canyon. It was almost as pretty as the Black Canyon of the Gunnison. So, if you decide to go, get the cheapest tickets and stand on the outside observation car and you'll get your money's worth.
