Cycling to Tuscany’s Hidden Gem: A Wine and Olive Oil Odyssey
In search of an authentic Tuscan experience, I embarked on a journey to Colle di Bordocheo Organic Farm. The promise of panoramic views, exquisite wines, and rich olive oils was too enticing to resist.
A Journey Through the Tuscan Countryside
The sun was a golden orb in the sky as my wife and I embarked on a 23-kilometer bike ride from the heart of Lucca to the enchanting Colle di Bordocheo Organic Farm. The journey was a tapestry of rolling hills and verdant landscapes, each turn revealing a new vista more breathtaking than the last. Despite our lack of recent cycling practice, the ride was invigorating, a testament to the allure of Tuscany’s countryside.
Our guide, a local with an infectious passion for the region, regaled us with tales of the land and its history, ensuring our safety and enriching our journey with knowledge. As we pedaled through the sun-dappled paths, the anticipation of the vineyard’s promise spurred us onward.
The Heart of Colle di Bordocheo
Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by the owner, a figure whose presence seemed as timeless as the hills themselves. A refreshing glass of cold water was a welcome reprieve, and we took a moment to freshen up, the cool breeze a gentle caress after our ride.
A young lady, brimming with knowledge and enthusiasm, guided us through the olive groves and vineyards. Her stories of the farm’s history and the meticulous processes behind their olive oil and wine production were as rich and textured as the landscape itself. The sun cast long shadows as we wandered, each step a deeper immersion into the world of Colle di Bordocheo.
A Symphony of Flavors
The tasting room was a sanctuary of elegance, its high ceilings and panoramic views a perfect backdrop for the symphony of flavors that awaited us. Our guide introduced us to the farm’s olive oil, a liquid gold that danced on the palate with notes of grass and pepper.
The wine tasting was a journey in itself, beginning with two crisp whites, followed by a delicate rosé, and culminating in three robust reds. Each sip was a revelation, the wines’ complexity and depth a testament to the land’s bounty. Accompanied by local delicacies, the tasting was a celebration of Tuscany’s culinary heritage.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in hues of orange and pink, we knew that this experience was one to be cherished. Colle di Bordocheo had woven its magic, leaving us with memories as rich and enduring as the wines we tasted. We departed with a promise to return, our hearts full and our spirits lifted by the beauty of Tuscany.
