We planned a 3/4 day deep sea fishing trip in late January 2025 and Steve was our Captain. The temperature and weather ended up before really nice for our trip. Captain Steve was very nice and helpful from the beginning on taking our bags, cooler & giving us one last time to use restrooms before heading out. Once we were aboard, Steve told us where the life jackets were on board, how to use the toilet in case any one needed to use it and what the plan was for our trip. Due to the weather and ocean conditions previous to our trip it wasn’t going to be ideal to troll fishing, but we would try to bottom fish. We trusted what Steve told us and we ended up driving about 1-1.5 hours to our first spot to fish. As we left the dock, Steve pointed out some dolphins off the dock area which we got on video. We saw the beautiful sunrise and the ocean was good while driving to the first spot. On the way, I spotted a fin out of the water and Steve said that was a Mola Mola fish and he turned the boat around for us to go see it as he hadn’t seen one for years. We ended up seeing 3 of those fish while driving. Once we got to our spot, Steve put some bait on the reels, told us how to use the fishing rods and then we dropped our lines 80–90 feet down to the bottom. Right away we ended up getting some “Grunt” fish and kept some of them for bait later. During our trip we ended up catching 6-15 fish a piece (5 people on our trip). We caught: Grunt Fish, Red Snappers (a lot of them), 3-4 Sandbar Sharks (two of them we were able to reel in, but it was tiring) that were about 5-6 feet in length and about 150 lbs, Lizard Fish, Charlie Brown Fish, Pig Fish, BlackSea Bass, Flounder Fish, 2 Gag Grouper Fish (one was 20 lbs), Lane Snapper Fish (we kept to eat), Grey Trigger Fish (we kept to eat). Other animals we saw: Pelican Birds, Dolphins, Big Sea Turtle, Jelly Fish & Mola Mola Fish. We were pleased with our time fishing with Captain Steve as only a couple of spots the fish weren’t biting as much so he took us to a couple of other places. Steve would cut up the bait and place it on the hooks and if a fish/shark broke the line, Captain Steve would work on it right away and when we caught a fish he would take them off and educate you on the type of fish. We had to reel in our fish quick some times due to Sharks trying to eat our fish. One of the Red Snappers was bitten in half by one of the sharks so Captain Steve used it as bait for us to catch one of the big sharks and it worked! We had a great time while on our 7 hour trip and the time did go really fast. Not very many of us were just sitting around as someone was always fishing and catching something even if you felt the fish was small, it was still entertaining. Steve ended up filleting our two keeper fish (Lane Snapper & Grey Trigger Fish) at the dock which I had brought some ziplock bags to put them in to take back with us. We wish we could have caught more fish to keep and eat, but that had nothing to do with the Captain, but it’s called fishing for a reason. We would personally recommend this trip as we made lots of memories to last a life time. One recommendation that Greg (the owner of Sea Leveler) recommended a head of time was to see about getting the sea sickness patches that goes behind the ears (prescription from your Doctor) which we were able to get back home before coming and none of us (5 people) ever got sea sick which made the trip so much more enjoyable. The boat was in great condition and there were more seats available on the boat and they were all comfortable while riding out to the ocean and sitting on the boat (“Sea’s the Day” Boat). Communication was very good from the get go as I called and talked to Greg (The owner of Sea Leveler) and asked questions before I booked our trip. Once I signed up, I did get an email about details and then a text the night before our trip to tell us how things looked for our trip (weather condition, etc.). I would say that we received the service and experience that Sea Leveler said we would get for our trip. I/we would recommend Sea Leveler to others based off of our trip. We may be planning a shark fishing trip with my little boys on this same trip and we will be using Sea Leveler again if it works out for our trip!
