Experience required? No. Beginners through advanced painters are welcome!
Transportation to each location is not included and will be chosen based on weather and availability. Each location will be within a 15 minute or less drive from Portland, Maine.
I will provide materials and equipment needed to paint outdoors.
Classes will be held at locations known to local professional artists as ideal locations for painting and photography. These areas may require light hiking and standing for extended periods. Comfortable footwear, clothing and sun protection are recommended.

Best day ever. - Joanne was a delight! She had all the necessary supplies and found us a perfect out of the way spot. She was kind and patient with a couple of newbies. We learned lots of good techniques and can’t wait to do it again! 10/10 would recommend.

Plein air painting with JoAnn was a perfect day in Portland, Maine! - Our plein air painting with JoAnn was the most perfect day! Even though we are both beginners, we learned so much! JoAnn is a fantastic artist and teacher, she inspired us, as well as the joy of being outdoors in the gorgeous Maine setting! We cannot imagine a better way to experience Portland, meet a more lovely artist and actually learn in the process. Don’t miss this experience, as it was the highlight of our 16 day New England tour, a lifetime memory for sure!

Great Experience - It was a lovely day and I enjoyed learning how to see the perspective and how to watercolor with techniques to add dimension. She was very patient with me when I messed up! We spent several hours by the Portland Headlight and I pretty much finished my project before leaving. Paint, paper and supplies are provided. Bring water.

A new experience! - Fantastic experience to do something different as part of our cruise. Joanne was so nice and provided great instruction for us first time painters. 3 of us total so we had plenty of attention. The park was beautiful and we could not have asked for better weather. Would do this again if we are in the area. Highly recommend.

Best experience in a long time! - Instructor was incredible! She gave helpful hints in an easy to u destined, positive manner. So surprised to find we could each select whatever we wanted to paint and each got individual assistance. Instructor didn’t rush us, made us all feel we had accomplished a miracle, and proved that we actually had some talent! Best experience in a very long time! Wanted to upload photos, but app didn’t seem to work.

Painting in Portland - My daughter and I had a great time painting in this beautiful location. Our teacher showed us many techniques and allowed us to be creative as well. It was a great balance of being taught and still being able to express ourselves. I would highly recommend this experience!

Best painting session ever! - Pleine air painting on a secluded beach. Even with breezy weather Joanne patiently weathered the storm with her students. So much fun and I for one cannot wait to return. Joanne was attentive and encouraging to a beginner artist. A must do when visiting beautiful Portland Maine.

A wonderful experience! - I was a first time painter and thought I would give this a try. How can you lose with all of the scenic views? I was very surprised to find out that I love to paint! Everything was provided,including a snack:)After this experience,I went right to the craft store and stocked up!I have been painting ever since,and find that it is also great therapy.Jo-Ann was a lovely person,and a great teacher.Her enthusiasm for her craft was contagious.I would highly recommend this adventure!!

It was chilly but a... - It was chilly but a wonderful experience. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to try anew experience. The beach we painted on had a awning which helped because it did rain while we were there.
