Food tour turned History tour - Parnita is very friendly, highly knowledgeable and very flexible. A wonderful experience! I booked a good tour but was feeling sick so we switched last minute to a history tour and it was so informative. Loved every moment.

A food tour plus a lot more - Poor Karin had her work cut out with me! I was ill with a tummy bug for most of my South Africa trip, and rocked up in Cape Town both starving and terrified to eat. Karin instantly understood, shifted gears, and tailored the experience to my slower pace, patchy appetite and possibly dramatic and sudden need for a toilet (which luckily didn't arise). I loved getting a 'proper' city tour in and among the food stops, and Karin was so knowledgeable about everything. We visited Bo-Kaap, the Company Gardens, Prins and Prins and all around this central area. Karin was great company and very sympathetic and easy to chat with. I managed some (but not all) of the nosh (as I recall a koesister featured), which was a tragedy really, because it's clear that Cape Town has so much amazing cuisine to try. So my photos attached do not show me eating but rather just enjoying CT in the sunshine. Clearly I will have to come back, and try again! My experience really shows how great City Unscripted experiences are in how flexible, personal and unique they can be, regardless of the circumstances. The hosts like Karin are so knowledgeable about their home turf that they can pivot instantly. As a traveller who is often going solo, also, the fact the guides I have had are so companionable makes a huge difference, and I feel like I have acquired a new friend for the day. I also certainly echo a previous reviewer in how thorough Karin was in getting in touch early on once I had booked, and keeping in touch periodically until our tour. That was very reassuring and it was lovely to chat with her in advance over WhatsApp. Thanks to Karin for saving my day and making it memorable for all the right reasons!

A good introduction to Cape Town - Karin’s dedication to her tours was apparent before the tour even started, as she reached out to us numerous times to ensure everything was lined up properly. Being a Sunday, several of the places she had planned to take us were closed, but for the most part she adjusted the itinerary on the fly and showed us other points of interest. After we eventually had the first stop for an appetizer and drink, she suggested we continue in her vehicle so that we could see more than was possible on foot. The additional charge seemed reasonable so we agreed, and she went out of her way to show us numerous Cape Town highlights, including the V&A Waterfront and the views from the road up to Table Mountain. Her passion for her home town was evident throughout the tour, as was her desire to ensure the food choice was consistent with our preferences. The second, and final, food stop was a delicious selection of appetizers at Karibu which, given that we had to wait for a table, is an obviously-popular spot on the Waterfront.

DO NOT BOOK THIS TOUR - The tour was booked for 6pm. The tour guide texted the day before that she would arrive 30 minutes late. On the day of the tour, she texted me at 5:29, to say that she was on her way. She arrived at 5:54pm. I asked her to cancel, considering that she was so late and that I couldn't extend the tour beyond the scheduled 3 hours because of my prior engagements. She convinced me to start the tour and see how things went. I agreed, considering that we were in a very tourist area that I hadn't been, and the sceneray was nice. She kept asking me what I wanted to do. I explained to her the day prior that she has free rein as the guide to take me on an authentic experience. The first stop was a very commercialized venue called the Time OUT. The first thing she buys for me to try is Kudo Jerky. Picture this. Everyone is indulging until very hefty meals and spirits, and I'm introduced to jerky. At that point, I explained to the guide that the tour didn't meet my standards or expectations. It was not planned or organized; she was extremely late, and I was annoyed. That's when I insisted that she reach out and request a full refund. Apparently, that didn't happen. I decided to open a case myself. In doing so, I shared all pics of the communication between the guide and myself, and I'm still awaiting on a final decision. I paid $126 USD.
