This is one of the most pristine and well-preserved National Parks in South Africa, part of the UNESCO heritage site and the Cape Floral Kingdom, rich in marine life often referred to as the Serengeti of the Oceans. The park’s fauna and flora will leave guests breathless. Wildlife sightings may include Bontebok, Baboons, Wild Ostriches, Tortoises, Eland, Seals, Penguins, various birds, and Southern Right Whales (June-November). Guests can take memorable photos at the wooden board marking the mystical meeting point of the Indian and Atlantic Oceans, known as the Cape of Good Hope. The area is reputed to have the cleanest air in the world according to scientists. A small guided hike is available for those interested.
- Old Cape Point Lighthouse - The next attraction is a visit to the old lighthouse of Cape Point, which was decommissioned after the Portuguese liner, the Lusitania, crashed under its guidance due to frequent fogs. Today, it is a popular tourist attraction offering breathtaking views of the Indian and Atlantic Oceans. Guests can snap memorable photos here and see Cape Point and the new powerful lighthouse. Two options are available to reach the top: for hiking enthusiasts, a short hike of approximately 15 minutes each way is available, or guests can take a small tram at their own expense, known as the Dutch Man Funicular, costing ZAR 150 per adult for both ways.
- Cape Point Ostrich Farm - As the tour exits the Reserve, guests will learn about the Dias Cross and the Vasco da Gama cross. A 15-minute stop at Cape Point Ostrich Farm will provide an opportunity to learn about these birds and take photos.
- Chapman’s Peak Drive - The tour continues along one of the most scenic drives in the world, known as Chapman’s Peak Drive. Discover this breathtaking scenic route with its 114 curves, with mountains on one side and cliffs as well as the Atlantic Ocean on the other side. The views along this route will leave guests breathless. A 20-minute stop is allowed for snapping memorable photos at the viewing point. Chapman’s Peak is named after John Chapman, the pilot of an English ship becalmed in today’s Hout Bay in 1607. The skipper sent his pilot ashore to find provisions, and the name was recorded as Chapman’s Chaunce. Please note that this road undergoes periodic maintenance, and if it is closed due to unforeseen circumstances, an alternative route, “The Ou Kapse Weg,” will be used to return to Cape Town.
