- Langa - Langa is one of Cape Town’s oldest townships, established in 1927 as a result of the 1923 Urban Areas Act, which aimed to control the movement of Black South Africans under the apartheid regime. The name “Langa” means “sun” in Xhosa, but it also honors Langalibalele, a 19th-century chief who resisted colonial rule.
- Khayelitsha - Khayelitsha is one of the largest townships in South Africa, located about 30 km from Cape Town. Established in 1983 during the apartheid era, it was created as a result of forced relocations of Black South Africans. Today, Khayelitsha is a densely populated, vibrant community that continues to grow despite facing challenges such as poverty, unemployment, and infrastructure limitations.
- Caledon - Caledon has a rich colonial history, and you can still see Cape Dutch-style architecture in some of its buildings. The town’s history is intertwined with farming and its role as a key stopover point during the early settlement of the region.
- Cape Agulhas - Cape Agulhas, located 3 hours southeast of Cape Town, is the southernmost tip of the African continent. It’s here that the warm Indian Ocean collides with the icy Atlantic. The rugged coastline hosts over 21,000 wetland and seabirds of different types. Known as the Serengeti of the seas due to its diverse marine life, it is also part of the Cape Floral Kingdom, the richest floral kingdom in the world. About 2,000 different plant species are resident in this area, with over 100 being endemic. Visitors will have ample time to explore the coastal plains and can also visit the Cape Agulhas lighthouse, the second oldest in South Africa. A walk up to the summit of the lighthouse provides a bird’s eye view of the town and the museum at the bottom.
- Hermanus - The tour will continue towards Hermanus, a quaint coastal town known as South Africa’s whale-watching capital. Whales can be spotted here from the whale trail along the shores between June and November each year. Hermanus is also known for its gastronomy, and visitors will be able to have lunch here before the tour continues southeast towards Elim.
- Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate - Benguela Cove is known for producing high-quality wines. The estate’s vineyards benefit from the cool maritime climate of the Walker Bay area, which is ideal for growing grape varietals like Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Shiraz, and Pinot Noir.
- Stony Point Penguin Colony - Stony Point in Betty’s Bay is a coastal town an hour east of Cape Town. It was a whaling station in the late 1800s and later became better known for its unusual residents: the African penguins. The penguins settled at Stony Point beach at the end of the 20th century, making it one of two mainland penguin colonies. Guests will have some time to walk along the penguin beach and see the penguins up close.
