Cape Peninsula: Cape Point and Cape of Good Hope, Seals Island, and African Penguins

Cape Town Central - Our tour begins with hotel pickups in Cape Town and surrounding areas at 08:30 AM (flexible). This day trip to the Cape of Good Hope/Cape Point, Seals, and Penguins starts with a brief city drive, showcasing monuments and buildings in the City Centre.

Green Point Lighthouse - The day starts with a pickup from your hotel/accommodation and a drive along the South Peninsula coastline. The Green Point Lighthouse, Cape Town, is an operational lighthouse on the South African coast. First lit on 12 April 1824, it is located on Mouille Point. It was the first solid lighthouse structure on the South African coast and is the oldest operational lighthouse in South Africa.

Cape Town Stadium (Green Point Stadium) - Built for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, the stadium hosts various sports matches and music concerts throughout the year.

Sea Point - At Sea Point, enjoy scenic ocean and mountain views. Sea Point is one of the most prominent scenic spots along the Atlantic Seaboard. It’s about 11 km long and ideal for walking, running, and cycling due to its flat and well-maintained paths. It is also the headquarters of the Jewish community in Cape Town and was recently voted the coolest place on the African continent.

Clifton - Clifton is the wealthiest area in the country, often referred to as the Beverly Hills of Africa. It offers excellent leisure and recreational opportunities for fun-seekers and beach lovers. The area includes Anchor Bay, Bantry Bay, Clifton Bay, and Camps Bay.

Maidens’ Cove - Known for its stunning views, Maidens’ Cove is a popular spot for picnics and photography, offering breathtaking views of the ocean and mountains.

Hout Bay - Hout Bay has one of the busiest fishing harbors in the Western Cape, with a well-established tuna, snoek, and crayfish industry. The harbor is home to the Hout Bay Yacht Club and several restaurants. Visit Seal Island on an amazing ocean safari to watch playful seals, a variety of birds, and beautiful landscapes. You might also see majestic whales, joyful dolphins, and other marine life. (Optional) R 120 PP

Chapman’s Peak Drive - This is one of the most rewarding panoramic drives in the country, if not the world. The drive hugs the near-vertical face of the mountain, linking Hout Bay to Noordhoek suburb. It has 114 curves over nine kilometers and stands at 593m above sea level. Tourists and locals often stop at viewpoints along the drive.

Noordhoek Farm Village - Stop at the Long Beach for photos and Noordhoek Farm Village for refreshments, coffee, and small crafts and souvenirs.

Simon’s Town - Founded in 1679 by the second governor Simon Van der Stel, Simon’s Town is the second oldest town in South Africa and home to the South African Navy’s base. It was the British headquarters under the Commonwealth until 1944. You will see the Martello House, the oldest British construction in the country and the oldest of its kind in the world. It is also home to African penguins. Lunch at Harbor View Restaurant (exclusive).

Boulders Beach Penguin Colony - Boulders Beach is home to a colony of about 3,000 African Penguins, also known as the endangered tuxedo swimmers. Originating from South America, specifically Argentina, the African Penguin can be seen up close on the beach. Your guide will provide information about the penguins’ current affairs. Before 1982, there were no penguins here. R 200 PP

Cape of Good Hope - A visit to Cape Town is incomplete without a photo behind the Cape of Good Hope name board. Your tour guide will share the history of the two beacons known as the Bartolomeu Dias beacon and the Vasco Da Gama beacon. The Cape of Good Hope is the most southwestern point of the African continent, where the warm Agulhas and cold Benguela currents meet. The reserve is part of the Cape Floristic Kingdom, one of the world’s six floral kingdoms, with 1,100 species of indigenous plants. The reserve covers 7,750 hectares of rich and varied flora and fauna. Enjoy spectacular views of the Atlantic and False Bay coastlines from Cape Point. Spend time in the reserve, where you may encounter baboons, Cape Mountain Zebra, eland, buck, and over 250 species of birds. R 400 PP

Cape Point Nature Reserve - Situated at the southwestern tip of Africa, the Cape Point Nature Reserve is one of the most pristine and unspoiled places on earth, with dramatic cliffs, pristine beaches, and breathtaking views. Most travelers opt for a short hike from the Cape of Good Hope to the Cape Point lighthouse. If you prefer not to hike, the guide will take you to the Flying Dutchman Funicular, which travels up to the Cape Point lighthouse (fee excluded from the tour price). Cape Point is the official meeting point of the two ocean currents: the cold Benguela and the warm Agulhas currents. Cape Point is famous for the Dutchman Funicular, the old lighthouse, and the best viewing site of Cape Point.

St James Beach - Our final stop for the day is St James Beach at Muizenberg, where visitors can view the colorful beach huts and take photos. These huts are used as changing rooms by sunbathers. The beach is famous for its surfing spot in Cape Town and is home to a surfing community, swimming pools, and wooden colorful huts.

Cape Town Central - The tour ends with a drop-off back at your hotel/accommodation.

Observatory - This hospital reminds us of the world’s first heart transplant in 1967 by Dr. Christian Barnard.

Robben Island, Table Mountain, Kirstenbosch, and V&A Waterfront

Cape Town Central - The itinerary begins with a pickup from your hotel/accommodation at exactly 7:30 AM to catch the early ferry.

Victoria & Alfred Waterfront - The V&A Waterfront is one of the most popular areas in Cape Town. The neighborhood offers stunning ocean views and easy access to some of the city’s best beaches. This is where you will take the ferry to Robben Island, which is 11 km from the mainland, a 40-45 minute ferry ride. Here, you will pay for your ferry fee and Robben Island ticket. R 600 PP

Robben Island Museum - Robben Island is located in Table Bay and is best known as the site of the maximum-security prison where Nelson Mandela and other political prisoners were incarcerated during apartheid. Mandela served 18 of his 27 years in prison on the island, which has become synonymous with the struggle. It is now a World Heritage site and museum offering daily tours. You will disembark at Murray’s Bay Harbour on the east coast of the island and take a short walk to the buses that will take you to all historical sites around the island.

Victoria & Alfred Waterfront - After returning from Robben Island, you will have lunch and walk around the V&A Waterfront, located on the edge of the city’s busy harbor. The area offers a unique variety of dining, shopping, and entertainment options. Please note that lunch is exclusive.

Bo-Kaap - Bo-Kaap is a neighborhood in Cape Town, known for its narrow cobbled streets lined with colorful houses. It has been a daytime destination since 1834, marking the end of slavery in the Cape Colony.

Table Mountain Aerial Cableway - Travel to Table Mountain via the Atlantic Coastal drive towards Llandudno Beach, an area mostly occupied by British nationals and known for its nude beach. Table Mountain is a unique symbol of the peninsula, standing at an altitude of 1,067 meters above sea level. The cable car ride offers a 360-degree rotation, providing a full panorama of the area. At the top, you will find a self-service restaurant, Table Mountain Cafe, offering a range of food, drinks, snacks, desserts, and wines. Table Mountain is a great spot to soak up the commanding 360-degree views of Cape Town, Table Bay, the nearby peaks, and the rest of Table Mountain National Park. Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden - Explore the Cape Floral, the smallest but richest of the world’s six floral kingdoms. Kirstenbosch is one of the greatest gardens in the world, covering 528 hectares with about 9,000 species of Cape Fynbos, 6,200 of which are found nowhere else in the world. The garden is part of the seven wonders of the world and includes visitor facilities such as restaurants, a nursery, a gift shop, a bookshop, and a permanent stone sculpture exhibition. This is where we will end our tour before heading back to the hotel, capturing some sunset photos. Note that the entry fee is exclusive. R 220 PP

Cape Wineland Routes: Stellenbosch, Franschhoek, and Paarl Regions

Vredenheim - Vredenheim is one of the oldest wine farms in the heart of Stellenbosch, offering viticulture products, flora, and wildlife such as lions (both African and white), black and African leopards, white and Bengal tigers, and many antelopes.

Stellenbosch - Founded in 1679 by Governor Simon Van der Stel, Stellenbosch is known as the heart of South African wine country. The large number of oak trees lining the streets have given the town the nickname Eikestad (City of Oaks).

Stellenbosch University - Stellenbosch University is one of the largest residential universities in the country. The university buildings feature different architectural styles built over the years. The Ou Hoofgebou (Old Main Building) was proclaimed a heritage site in 1973. We will pass by the university after a walking city tour, viewing the first Dutch Reformed Church (1687), the Village Museum, and the Schreuder House built in the 18th century. Visit the first trading store in Stellenbosch, Oom Samie se Winkel, and the Nelson Mandela monument.

Franschhoek Motor Museum - The museum offers visitors a chance to look back at more than 100 years of motoring history. You can view the first car made in South Africa (1897), antique pre-1904 vehicles, and one of the most historical vehicles used by Nelson Mandela during his presidency, a bulletproof BMW. The museum belongs to Johann Rupert, the richest man in Africa. After the vehicle museum, we will be driven in vintage vehicles to the Terra del Capo cellar for wine tasting followed by lunch.

Anthonij Rupert Wyne Estate & Terra del Capo Tasting Room - At this venue, we will have wine tasting and lunch. During peak tourism season, restaurant reservations can be busy. If we miss a reservation, we will change the venue to another restaurant around Franschhoek, such as La Grande Provence, La Motte, La Petite Ferme, or Le Lude.

Franschhoek - Franschhoek, meaning “French Corner,” dates back to 1688-1860 when French refugees settled there, brought by the Dutch and VOC company. Many left France due to the Edict of Nantes and the religious wars. Franschhoek is known as the gourmet capital of South Africa, with about 50 wineries and estates, most offering wine tasting facilities. We will have wine tasting at La Grande Provence and view the gallery.

Groot Drakenstein - The Drakenstein Prison, also called Victor Verster Prison, is where Nelson Mandela spent the last two years of his 27-year imprisonment before his release on 11 February 1990.

Paarl - Founded in 1960, Paarl is regarded as the capital and headquarters of the Afrikaners (Boers), the white Europeans who made themselves African whites. We will view the Afrikaans Language Museum building. Paarl is also home to the KWV Wine Estate and Distillery, once the largest wine organization in the world. The headquarters are located in Paarl, La Concorde.

Century City - Inaugurated in 2000 to celebrate the new millennium, Century City is home to the world’s largest museum in bronze exhibits, mainly for veterans who fought for liberation and freedom against apartheid. The museum is open to the public. The largest shopping center in the Cape, Canal Walk, is also located here. The center hosts many world-branded company representatives such as Vodacom, Mercedes, MTN, and Amazon.

Cape Town Central - Finally, we return to the hotel, residential area, airport, or cruise terminal, ending our itinerary.
