Experience Lion’s Head: Hike, geocache, and capture stunning sunrise or sunset views over Cape Town. Small-group tours for a personal adventure.
- Lion’s Head Hiking - Geocache Lion’s Head Hike Sunrise/Sunset.
Our Geocache hike features a series of geocaches hidden along the trail leading to the summit of Lion’s Head. The hiking path encircles the entire mountain, providing panoramic views in every direction. At a certain point, the trail becomes rugged, requiring hikers to use their hands to scramble over rocks. The ascent continues steeply to the first ladder, followed by a traverse to the left along a shelf with a chain handrail. The path then reaches a fork, offering two options: veer left to bypass two rock pitches or turn right to climb them. For those who prefer to avoid vertical rock steps, the left path continues past large stone pine trees to the crest of the southeast ridge.
At the summit of Lion’s Head, hikers are rewarded with a 360-degree view of Cape Town, one of the three iconic peaks framing the city with Table Mountain as its backdrop. As time passes, the city lights gradually turn on or off, presenting a new and captivating sight.

Lion’s Head offers a 360-degree view of Cape Town. It is one of the three iconic peaks that frame the city, second only to Table Mountain in its iconic status. Located just fifteen minutes from the city, the summit can be reached within an hour.
With Table Mountain as its backdrop, Lion’s Head is situated in one of the smallest yet richest floral kingdoms in the world. Hiking Lion’s Head at sunset is a cherished tradition among Capetonians. The evening sun often casts a golden glow over the ocean and Cape Town coastline, creating a warm and serene ambiance. Hiking at sunrise, on the other hand, offers a magical and peaceful atmosphere, with the changing sky colors providing stunning photo opportunities.
