Additional Information

Lion’s Head hike is a tour which we recommend to those looking for the best scenic views of Cape Town. The aerial views on Lion’s Head are better than those you get while hiking Table Mountain or on other routes. While this hike is the easiest of the Cape Town treks because of the short duration it takes to submit the mountain, a guide is still advised…

AMAZING HIKE / IT AINT EASY - We did the Sunrise Hike so be prepared to wake up at 4AM. This is was a Hike of a lifetime (Well for me) and well worth sacrificing the sleep!!! Be prepared because this Hike was not easy. Make sure too wear the right shoes. Definitely need to be in decent shape and you'll have a few scary moments but at the end of it we made it for a truly remarkable Sunrise when you reach the top Big Props to Dino for making our hike fun & memorable!

Tasty practice - Going hiking as 'preparation' for Table Mountain, this is NOT a walk in the park! The views from the top can probably only be bettered by Table Mountain itself. Be prepared for some stiff challenges and take water!

Great Hike/Scramble to the best Views after Table Mountain - We did this hike as a family. The route is awesome, and easy to use. We did not see the alternate route to avoid ascending and descending on the chains and staples, but it can be safely done by anyone in reasonable condition. Remember to take a snack, and water, it's a strenuous walk, and please don't litter!!!! A true gem!

Fantastic hike. Not for the faint-hearted. - This is a fantastic hike, probably better in my opinion than Table Mountain because you get ever changing views as you walk around and up the Lion’s Head. The hike is quite steep in places so you have to be in reasonable shape to enjoy it. Take some water and wear decent shoes/training shoes.

Getting back to the bottom was a relief - This was my third visit to Cape Town and I wanted to do a hike. We were informed by multiple people that Lions Head was great as it was very quick (two hours) and easy to do. We started at 7.30am and the hike started fairly pleasantly but after about 30/40 minutes in it became quite hairy- it was more of a rock climb than a hike and there was quite a bit of scrambling involved. The rocks were also quite slippery as they were sandy. There were also points where it got quite busy and people were trying to push past you which made for an uncomfortable experience as there was a cliff edge with no rails and quite a narrow path and all there was to hold onto was the rocks- there was also no way you could turn around as there were too many people close behind at some points. I must admit that I am a bit fearful of heights and so maybe some people wouldn’t find this as scary but I had to just focus on my footing and not look down too much when in these busier bits. Also, because we were told it was an easy hike I wore casual trainers and so perhaps if I had had walking boots on it would have been a bit easier for me. As we had been informed it would take about two hours, I had (probably naively) assumed it would be 1 hour up and 1 hour back down but after about 1.5 hours hiking/climbing, we were still not at the peak. It would have been helpful if there were more signs/information to tell you how far there was to go- when I asked people coming back down again how much further it was everyone kept saying it is still a good way to go and that it was only going to get harder. Once up the mountain and on flat surfaces the views were spectacular and when back down the mountain I felt very exhilarated and so I think it is worth doing but be prepared- take lots of water, wear good shoes and don’t expect an easy two hour hike there and back.
