- Robben Island Museum - In 1999, Robben Island was added to UNESCO’s World Heritage list. Located 12 kilometers off the coast of Cape Town, South Africa, Robben Island was home to a maximum-security prison for decades. Political prisoners, including the father of democracy and others, were incarcerated there during the apartheid era.
