- Stony Point Penguin Colony - African Penguin at Stony Point Nature Reserve
Next, visit Stony Point Nature Reserve in the quaint coastal town of Betty’s Bay, Overberg. This reserve is home to a unique colony of African penguins. View these flightless birds up close via the boardwalk without disturbing them.
The reserve also hosts three species of cormorants: the crowned cormorant, cape cormorant, and black cormorant, all breeding on the outer rocks. Additionally, you can spot the rock hyrax (Dassie), Hartlaub Gulls, and Kelp Gulls.
- Kogelberg Nature Reserve - Named after Rear-Admiral Thomas Pringle of the Royal Navy, who commanded the Cape naval station in the late 1970s.
Pringlebaai, a small coastal town in the Overberg region of the Western Cape, has a population of just over 1600. Situated at the foot of Hangklip, it overlooks False Bay from Cape Point and is part of the UNESCO Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve.
Pringle Bay lies between Betty’s Bay and Gordon’s Bay, with most homes used as holiday retreats.
- Gordon’s Bay Main Beach - Clarence Drive is one of the world’s most scenic routes, stretching over 48km between Gordon’s Bay and Kleinmond. Majestic mountains meet the beautiful blue ocean, creating stunning views.
With numerous viewing points along this drive, you can stop for photos or simply enjoy the scenery. The area is also home to the famous chacma baboons, always ready for a photo opportunity.
This drive is one of South Africa’s most scenic and is well worth the effort. If you enjoy winding roads, this route features 77 curves, including four exceeding 150 degrees.
The road is in excellent condition, attracting tourists, locals, bikers, and cyclists.

At the end of R44, join the N2 and head back to Cape Town.
