History
Nestled in the coastal village of Hout Bay at the base of Table Mountain, the World of Birds is situated in a lush valley originally named by the Dutch, meaning ‘wood bay’. Amidst the foliage, World of Birds Wildlife is home to over 3,000 birds spanning 400 species across four hectares. The park boasts in excess of 100 accessible aviaries, showcasing a variety of birds from falcons and eagles to owls, flamingos, and buzzards. The park is also a sanctuary for various mammals including baboons, meerkats, and porcupines, as well as a selection of small reptiles.
Be sure not to skip the enchanting stroll through the Magic Forest, a whimsical path that offers enchanting surprises along with avian encounters. Engage with a parrot and you might receive a reply, as some are former domesticated birds that can speak a few words! The Monkey Jungle is another must-visit, where a brief walk through a ‘jungle’ might result in a monkey perching on your shoulder. A spectacle not to be missed is the feeding of the birds of prey at 16:15.
