- Caherconnell Stone Fort & Sheepdog Demonstrations - Caherconnell Stone Fort, situated 1km south of Poulnabrone dolmen in the heart of the Burren Ireland, offers you the opportunity to visit an exceptionally well - preserved example of the stone forts or stone ringforts which are to be found in the Burren Ireland. The fort is in its original state. Its position, overlooking virtually all-surrounding areas suggests a defensive settlement. Archaeological excavations take place each summer in association with ‘CAFS’ - Caherconnell Archaeological Field School- an International Field School accredited by NUI, Galway. As well as a trip to the Fort, visitors can also take in the Burren’s Premier Sheepdog Demonstrations at Caherconnell, enjoying the combined skills of the farmer and the border collie as they work in the natural habitat of the Burren. The sheepdog demonstration times are available on our website

Do Both the Stone Fort Tour and Sheepdog Demo! Really interesting! - Both the stone fort tour and the sheepdog demonstration were wonderful!! Lots of interesting information and history in the stone fort tour, but not overwhelming - and the sheepdog demo was fun and fascinating. Highly recommend doing both when you go!

#welovesheepdogs - What a fascinating and fun demonstration of how you work with your adorable sheepdogs! Also, the guided fort tour was so amusing and explanatory that we stuck with it despite the rain and cold! Thank you so much for a perfect few hours!

Fantastic staff and experience!! - This was an absolutely fantastic experience!! John, our shepherd, was very knowledgeable and engaging! I loved chatting with John after the demonstration about his dogs and his experience! John really cares about his dogs and takes pride in his work, I was very impressed! As an animal lover and working in the veterinary career, the experience was extremely worth our time. The staff was lovely and very helpful. This has definitely been a highlight of my trip in Ireland and I will recommend it to any ages!

Entertaining Sheepdog Demo! - We went to the sheepdog demonstration, which was very unique and entertaining. The worker who was handling the sheepdogs explained everything well, and it was incredible to watch the dogs work. It was also a bonus to get to meet and pet them at the end. A favorite of the trip for some in the group but well enjoyed by all. Definitely worth the time!

WORTH THE STOP - Throughly enjoyed our visit here, well worth the few hours spent here. We purchased the combination ring fort tour with the sheep dog demonstration. Everyone was very personable and extremely informative, a well set up establishment. Small cafe, small gift shop and clean restrooms on site.
Bonus is that the Paulnabrone Burial Tomb park is just a few minutes further up the road and you are able to do a small walk about and see the actual Burren terrain up close.

Lovely and so worth it! - I attended the demonstration on a blustery day. Even so, the dogs and their handler demonstrated prowess and dedication. I grew up with Border Collies and found their skills and their mischief. fun.
It was also interesting and educational to hear about Caherconnell fort and its history. I love the Burren and learn more about it every time I visit. This demonstration was no exception and I enjoyed every minute.

Great Herding Dog Demonstration - We only saw the sheepdog demonstration, and it was incredible! I have watched border collies herding on the internet, but it was so much better in person! Watching these dogs really helped me understand my dog better, who is a herding breed also. The man who did the demonstration was very good at explaining their training, and afterwards we got to meet the dogs and take pictures.

Very interesting remains of a town - Caherconnell Stone Fort is located in a natural area called The Burren, in Western Ireland. We came here to visit the stone fortress, which was inhabited during 4500 years until the 17th Century. It is a very interesting place to know the history of the country without castles and monasteries. You can walk around the ruins of the town and see the wall and the remains of some houses. Also, there is a little shop and visitors center.
