A Family Adventure in Calblanque

Our recent trip to Cartagena was filled with anticipation as we embarked on a horseback riding adventure through the stunning Calblanque Natural Park. As a family, we are always on the lookout for activities that offer both fun and learning opportunities, and this experience promised just that. The park, known for its rich flora and fauna, provided a perfect backdrop for our exploration.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by the friendly staff and introduced to the beautiful horses that would be our companions for the day. The kids were particularly excited, having never ridden horses before. The staff, though not fluent in English, were warm and welcoming, and their passion for the animals was evident. They took the time to show us around and introduce us to the horses, which were clearly well cared for and loved.

Navigating New Experiences

As we set off on our ride, the beauty of the natural park unfolded before us. The calm pace allowed us to take in the sights and sounds of the park, from the rustling of the Aleppo pines to the distant views of the Mar Menor. However, the ride was not without its challenges. My youngest, who has autism, found the proximity of the horses a bit overwhelming at first. The presence of a stallion in our group added to the tension, as it seemed to be a bit more spirited than the others.

In hindsight, a few laps around the school before heading out might have helped ease the initial anxiety. Despite the language barrier, the staff did their best to accommodate us, and their understanding nature was much appreciated. The ride back, with more space between the horses, was much more enjoyable for everyone, and my daughter was able to relax and enjoy the experience.

Embracing the Unexpected

The unexpected can often lead to the most memorable experiences, and this ride was no exception. At one point, the owner had a fall, and the horse took off, adding a bit of excitement to our journey. Thankfully, everyone was okay, and it became a story to tell back home.

The mosquitos were a bit of a nuisance, particularly for the stallion I was riding, which made for a slightly more challenging ride. However, the beauty of the horse and its graceful movement made up for any discomfort. The staff’s dedication to their animals was evident, and despite the language barrier, their love for what they do shone through.

It reminded us of the importance of embracing new experiences, even when they come with unexpected challenges.
