Highlights
- Carvalho Beach - We start at the serene and secluded Carvalho Beach with a safety briefing and instructions. To access the beach, we descend through an ancient carved tunnel in the rock. Here, we can admire the rock tower off Carvalho’s waters and its curving limestone walls.
- Praia de Benagil - After leaving Carvalho, we visit some hidden caves along the way, eventually reaching the bustling Benagil Beach, where we can observe the village’s historic fishing past.
- Benagil Cave - Just after Benagil Beach, we arrive at the famous Benagil Cave. We’ll stop to take stunning photos of the renowned “sinkhole” and learn about the historical, geological, and ecological significance of the Algarve region. After the guide’s explanations, you can explore the cave on your own or follow the guide to discover some hidden fossils. After about 30 minutes, we continue our adventure, exiting the cave with the guide’s assistance.
- Praia da Marinha - After leaving Benagil Cave, we paddle towards Marinha Beach, visiting more hidden caves and sinkholes along the way. Upon reaching Marinha Beach, we pass beneath the famous Arches of Marinha and stop for fantastic photos. Then, we paddle back towards Carvalho Beach.
- Leixão do Ladrão - If time permits and depending on the group, we visit the “Island of the Smuggler.” Here, we enter a massive tunnel inside this rock formation and observe two beautiful holes in the ceiling, known as “the blue eyes.” Photos will be taken.
- Farol de Alfanzina/Alfanzina Lighthouse - After exiting the tunnel of the “Island of the Smuggler,” we can admire the lighthouse in all its glory. We then head back to the beach, which is just five minutes away from this point. Photos will be taken.

Stunning sunrise kayak with informative guide - This kayak trip had the most stunning scenery. We chose the sunrise kayak and were so glad we did as it provided great photo opportunities and we didn’t have to share the area with a lot of other tourists. The distance was manageable and there was plenty of breaks to enjoy the scenery and take photos. Our guide Caio was a geologist, so was able to share a lot of interesting information about the formation of the landscape.

Worth getting up early! - The sunrise kayaking in the Bengali caves was great. Patrick was a great guide and made sure everyone was safe and having a good time. Would definitely recommend it. Be prepared to use some arm strength kayaking, nothing we couldn’t handle though.

Bengali Cave morning Tour - We had a wonderful time! We booked the 7:00 am tour due to the water being calmer first thing in the morning. Egas was our guide- he was great!! He had a lot of patience and told us lots of stories, history of the coast. They took some great pics of us also ! Just one thing to be aware - there are several steps to get done to the beach. It is all so worth it!! We would definitely do this tour again!!

Must do experience in Algarve - Fantastic experience, a must do when in the Algarve. Brotherootz was a really professional company, everything was made easy from booking through to completing the tour. Bruno our guide was tremendous, highly recommend.

Beautiful kayak trip with Guide - Beautiful kayak trip at dawn. The guides are nice. We enjoyed receiving information about the geology of the place and the formation of the caves.
We particularly enjoyed entering the pirate cave for the crossing.

Great fun! Highly recommend! - What a fun trip!! I didn’t want to wake up that early but was glad I did.

Fun excursion on the... - Fun excursion on the water seeing the caves. Recommend going for the early tour as the area gets really busy with power boat tours and other kayak tours. Our only issue was we had to fight a deflating kayak on one side and struggled to paddle back and noticed the next group after us had taken the kayak out as well so they would have had a very tough experience. We had alerted both guides on the issue but no help provided.
