Marrakech (Guided Full Day Sightseeing)
Marrakech - A full guided tour is arranged to explore Marrakech, known as the “Red City.” Marrakech is a significant former imperial city in Morocco’s history, located near the foothills of the snow-capped Atlas Mountains. Like many ancient cities, Marrakech consists of an old fortified city, The Medina, and a modern city called Gueliz, built during the French occupation. Marrakech boasts the largest traditional market (souk) in Morocco and one of the busiest squares in Africa and the world, Djemaa el Fna. The square is bustling with storytellers, water sellers, dancers, snake charmers, and musicians. At night, it transforms into a large open-air restaurant. The tour includes visits to the Bahia Palace, Majorelle Garden, Saadian Tombs, Menara Garden, and The Koutoubia Mosque, built in the 12th century during the Almoravid Dynasty. The tour navigates through narrow streets and alleys of the ancient city, with drop-off at the accommodation by evening.
Bahia Palace - The Bahia Palace is a grand old house converted into a palace in the late 19th century by a Moroccan architect. The finest workmen and craftsmen of the country worked continuously for six years (1894-1900) to create it. The palace was built by Minister Ahmed ben Musa in the 19th century to honor his wife, “Bahia,” and today it stands as an artistic masterpiece reflecting the splendor of Moroccan architecture with Andalusian influences, rich in historical secrets.
Jardin Majorelle - The Majorelle Garden is one of the most visited sites in Marrakech. French painter Jacques Majorelle (1886-1962) spent forty years passionately creating this enchanting garden in the heart of the ochre city. Visitors can stroll along shady lanes amidst exotic plants, past refreshing streams and pools filled with water lilies and lotus flowers. The garden is alive with the rustling of leaves and the chirping of birds. A Moorish-style building with art deco hints, painted in vibrant primary colors, is revealed unexpectedly along the path. The garden offers a calming retreat, harmoniously blending vivid imagery, near yet far from the bustling city.
Menara Gardens and Pavilion - The Menara Garden is a popular tourist site, especially for locals seeking to enjoy nature and escape the summer heat. It is a large landscaped garden with olive trees, attracting both locals and foreigners. The gardens provide a refreshing and beautiful Moroccan atmosphere.
Marrakech - Telouet - Ait Ben Haddou - Ouarzazate - Dades Gorges.
Tizi n’Tichka - Departing from Marrakech around 08:00, the journey crosses the High Atlas Mountains, offering beautiful views of Berber villages and elevated mountain scenes. A short stop at Tizi n’Tichka pass, at an elevation of 2260 meters, allows for photos of the spectacular Atlas Mountains.
Kasbah du Pacha el Glaoui - Optional visit to Telouet Kasbah.
Ksar of Ait-Ben-Haddou - The fortified Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou, built in the 11th century, was once a caravan route between the Sahara and Marrakech. Located on a hill along the Ounila River, it features beautiful examples of Kasbahs, though they suffer damage from rain and windstorms. Most inhabitants now live in a modern village across the river, but about five families still reside within the Kasbah. Ait Benhaddou has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987, and several films have been shot there, including Lawrence of Arabia (1962), Time Bandits (1981), The Jewel of the Nile (1985), Kundun (1997), Gladiator (2000), and Alexander (2004).
Ouarzazate - Known as the “Hollywood of Africa,” Ouarzazate is a city on a bare plateau south of the High Atlas Mountains, mainly inhabited by Berbers who built many of the area’s prominent Kasbahs. One such building is the Taourirt Kasbah, dating back to the 17th century. The town is a noted film-making location, with Morocco’s largest studios attracting international film companies to shoot movies like Lawrence of Arabia (1962), The Living Daylights (1987), The Last Temptation of Christ (1988), The Mummy (1999), Gladiator (2000), Kingdom of Heaven (2005), Martin Scorsese’s Kundun (1997), and Babel (2005). Visitors can explore the Studio of Cinema, Kasbah Taourirt, and Museum of Cinema.
Vallee Des Roses - The journey continues to Dades Gorges through the “1000 Kasbahs,” with numerous Kasbahs lining the road. Some are restored, while others are in ruins. A visit to Amridil Kasbah is included. The route passes through Kelaa M’gouna, the Valley of Roses, known for its green alfalfa plants, olive trees, fig trees, and grapes. The valley is famous for its roses, used to produce various cosmetic products like soap, perfumes, and skin creams. Locals celebrate the rose with a national festival each April.
Dades Gorges - The journey continues through Dades Valley, rising in the High Atlas Mountains.
Dades Gorges - Tinghir - Todra Gorges - Merzouga.
Gargantas del Todra - Passing through Boumalen city on the edge of Dades Valley, the journey reaches the great canyons of Morocco, Todgha Gorges, beyond the central High Atlas Mountains. The contrasting landscapes resemble the Colorado, with high plateaus, gorges, and canyons. Several peaks exceed 4000 meters, with Jbel Saghro at 2500 meters and Jbel Mgoun at 4068 meters being the highest in this part of the High Atlas. The area is populated by Berbers, and visitors can enjoy a hike among the stunning canyons.
Fossiles d’Erfoud - Heading to Erfoud, known for its pottery and fossil quarries. Fossils are a major industry in Erfoud, which was part of a vast ocean 350 million years ago.
Merzouga Desert - Traveling to the red sand dunes of Erg Chebbi Merzouga from a vast plateau, visitors are awed by the massive sand dunes of Merzouga appearing on the horizon. In the evening, a camel ride of about one and a half hours leads to a breathtaking sunset in the middle of the high sand dunes of Merzouga. Overnight stay in a Berber tented desert camp offers a wonderful view of the stars.
Merzouga - Zizi Valley - Midelt - Ifran - Fes.
Errachidia - Early risers can witness the spectacular sunrise, with the dunes’ colors and shadows creating an awe-inspiring scene. After a camel ride back to the hostel for a shower, the journey to Fez continues via Errachidia, crossing the challenging mountains still inhabited by a large Berber community. The landscape includes palm tree oases at Jbel Ayachi (3747 meters). A quick break at Ziz Valley is included.
Midelt - Lunch is scheduled in the Berber village of Midelt, located at the foothills of the eastern High Atlas Mountains. The journey crosses the challenging mountains, still home to a large Berber community, with landscapes featuring palm tree oases at Jbel Ayachi (3747 meters).
Azrou Cedar Forest - Optional visit to the monkeys park.
Ifrane - The route passes through Ifrane, the most modern and clean city in the country. The Berber name “Ifrane” means caves, and it is nicknamed “Little Switzerland” in Morocco due to its greenery and status as a ski resort in the Middle Atlas region, with an altitude of 1665 meters. Ifrane is also known for The Brotherhood private university, established in 1997 by King Hassan II of Morocco and King Fahd of Saudi Arabia, where all classes are taught in English. Arrival at accommodation in Fez is scheduled for the evening.
Fes - Chefchaouen
Fes - A half-day city tour with an official guide explores Fez, once considered the “Mecca of the West” and “Athena of Africa.” It is the second-largest city in the country after Casablanca, with a population of approximately 1 million. Fez, a former capital and one of the country’s four imperial cities, consists of three distinct parts: Fez el Bali, the oldest part surrounded by a large wall with over 9000 narrow streets and alleys; Fez-Jdid, or the new Fez, home to the Mellah, the Jewish quarter; and the Ville Nouvelle, the newest section created during the French occupation. Fez el Bali is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with the world’s largest medina. Among its narrow streets and alleys is the oldest university in the world, The University of Al-Karaouine, founded in AD 859, still operating today. Departure to Chefchaouen is scheduled for the late afternoon.
Province of Ouezzane - A quick break.
Chefchaouen Medina - Arrival in Chefchaouen around 08:00 pm, with drop-off at accommodation.
Chefchaouen - Free Time to Explore Chefchaouen at Your Own Pace.
Chefchaouen - Known for its vivid blue houses, Chefchaouen is popular with both tourists and Moroccans, especially during the hot summer months. Visitors can explore Chefchaouen’s winding lanes and narrow alleys, home to numerous souks offering cuisine and artisan works, such as woolen items, intricate embroidery, and goat cheese, unique to the North and not found elsewhere in Morocco. Relax in the square, visit a local farm, or hike in nearby parks. Departure from Chefchaouen to Rabat is scheduled for the evening.
Chefchaouen - Rabat - Casablanca.
Rabat - The tour includes visits to the Oudaya Kasbah and its beautiful gardens, located at the Abou Regreg River. Built during the Almohad dynasty in 1150 AD, the Mausoleum of Mohamed V, Hassan II, and Hassan Tower, the minaret of an incomplete mosque constructed in 1195 AD, are also visited. The tower was intended to be the largest minaret in the world. The tour concludes with a visit to the royal palace, home to the royal dynasty, before heading to Casablanca, the largest city in Morocco.
Casablanca - Visits include the Habous district, Medina, and Corniche.
Casablanca - Visit the Hassan II Mosque - Drop-off at the Airport.
Hassan II Mosque - A visit to the Great Mosque Hassan II offers a fascinating example of Moroccan architecture. It is the largest mosque in the kingdom and the fifth largest in the world, standing on a promontory overlooking the Atlantic. It accommodates 25,000 worshippers inside, with space for an additional 80,000 in the adjoining grounds, totaling 105,000 worshippers at any given time.
