It ranks as the second largest operational mosque in Africa and the 7th largest globally. Its minaret, standing at 210 meters (689 ft), is the second tallest in the world. Completed in 1993, the mosque was designed by Michel Pinseau under the direction of King Hassan II and constructed by skilled Moroccan artisans from across the nation. The minaret, which is 60 stories high, is topped with a laser that points towards Mecca. Positioned on a promontory overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, worshippers can pray with a view of the sea, although there is no glass floor.
