Additional Information

Presently, Cascais represents one of the top destinations for relaxation, sports, and cultural activities within the Lisbon region, frequented both by residents and visitors. Moreover, it’s the most desirable and costly place to live in Lisbon’s metropolitan area. This is quite different from its roots as a modest fishing village. On this tour, our goal is not only to demonstrate but also to invite contemplation and inquiry about the dramatic transformation of Cascais.

Professional and well-informed tour - We toured Cascais with Luis on the first day of our stay and came away with an appreciation of the town's history, architecture, people, food and more. We found him to be a highly professional guide, who made several excellent suggestions for further places to visit both in the town and the Sintra area.

Beauty and knowledge in Cascais! - We really enjoyed learning about the beautiful Cascais and its significance during WW2 for diplomats of other countries and the wealthiest and royalty of Portugal. Luís is super knowledgeable and could answer any question we had and showed us the plans of the seaside and how it has changed over the years.

Five star tour, professional, informative, great perspective - We moved very recently to Cascais and were looking for a tour that would provide a historical context to contemporary Cascais. Luis was the ultimate guide. Professional and informative, he captures the drama and cultural evolution of the town through its history and architecture. It was magic for us! We want to know more, so already thinking about our next tour with Luis. Highly recommended! *****

Great tour and tour guide! - Even though the Pope was in town and the crowds were massive, Luis was very good at showing us all the sites and his knowledge of the area and associated history was great. I love the photos and old drawings. These helped very much imagine the area as it was in the beginning. Highly recommend Luis and this tour.

Cascais: An oceanside paradise for those to be seen and those to look - Cascais is beautiful with its own history. It has attracted international aristocracy and the rich and famous for over for a century, with a history centuries older. On a 3+ hour walking tour around the bay, we enjoyed learning the history of some of the grand Cascais residences and buildings and their successive owners ("good and bad") through time and to the present. Our guide, a longtime local, Luís, had answers and insights. We thoroughly the experience, Cascais, and Luís.

Caiscais filled with many treasures - Luis the tour guide had an unbelievable amount of history of each site!! He was very kind and helpful explaining the areas as well as giving tips on what to do and what else to see. Viewing the Marina, the coastline, architecture, the fortress, the arts, the palace, mansion, parks and so much more was quite spectacular. Luis has been doing this for many years which was obvious with how perfect his English was. I would love to go back to Caiscais or another tour with Luis.
