Additional Information

Along the Cascais shoreline, often referred to as the Riviera of Portugal, lies Estoril, a former royal retreat that continues to draw visitors owing to its proximity to the ocean, gentle climate, and famed casino. Adjacent to Estoril sits Cascais, a historic fishing town, characterized by its cosmopolitan ambiance and traditional white dwellings. International brand shops align the streets, while in the harbor, boats and yachts gently rock, longing for the ocean’s call. Just a stone’s throw away from Lisbon rests Sintra, shrouded in fog, and retaining a romantic beauty that flawlessly fuses the sea, mountains, and fields populated with villas and royal residences. This amorous town, where horse carriages still roam, beckons visitors to delve into the pages of Eça de Queiroz’s famous book, Os Maias, delight in the famed local pastries, queijadas and travesseiros, and explore the enigmatic Pena Palace.

Great tour of Sintra/Cabo da Roca and Cascais - This was our second time working with Filipa and Alfacinha LX. In 2022, we did a private food tour and in May 2024, we returned and made a full-day trip to Sintra, Cabo da Roca and Cascais. Filipa is tremendously knowledgable and enthusiastic about Portuguese history, culture and food and also about the logistics of touring, all of which was a tremendous benefit. She worked with us in advance to plan the Sintra visit, choosing the best locations and -- no small thing in Sintra -- avoiding the worst of the crowding. Her recommendations were perfect and made for a great day. This was a wonderful way to see Sintra and get the most out of it. Our driver was terrific as well!
