Ascending to New Heights

As a former professional athlete turned travel writer, I’m always on the hunt for the next adrenaline rush. When I heard about the Epic Sky Trek in Castle Rock, I knew I had to experience it for myself. This isn’t just any obstacle course; it’s the largest freestanding one in the country, boasting 120 obstacles that soar up to 50 feet in the air. The thought of navigating through this sky-high labyrinth had my heart racing before I even arrived.

Upon arrival, I was greeted by the sight of towering structures and a bustling crowd of adventurers, young and old. The energy was infectious, and I couldn’t wait to get started. The course is designed to cater to all ages, with a kids’ course and multiple levels of adult challenges. I watched as families geared up, their excitement palpable. It reminded me of my own childhood adventures, always pushing the limits and seeking the thrill of the unknown.

The smart belay system was a game-changer, allowing me to choose my own path without the worry of getting stuck behind others. As I ascended, the world below seemed to shrink, and the obstacles ahead became my sole focus. Conquering the Course

The first level was a warm-up, a chance to get accustomed to the harness and the feel of the course. But as I progressed to the higher levels, the challenges intensified. The slack line, in particular, was a test of nerve and agility. It was here that I truly felt the rush of adrenaline, my heart pounding in my chest as I carefully placed one foot in front of the other.

I wasn’t alone in my quest. Families around me were cheering each other on, their laughter and encouragement echoing through the air. I met a family with two young kids, both eager to tackle the adult course. Their determination was inspiring, and it was a reminder that adventure knows no age. The youngest, a 5.5-year-old, was cautious but determined, while the 7-year-old was fearless, tackling every obstacle with gusto.

The lounge area provided a much-needed respite from the heat. With temperatures soaring to 90 degrees, it was a welcome break to cool down and recharge. The camaraderie among participants was evident, as we shared stories and tips, united by our shared love for adventure.

The Final Stretch

After hours of climbing, my hands were sore, a testament to the challenges I’d faced. But the thrill of the experience far outweighed any discomfort. The Ninja course was an optional add-on, and while I opted to rest, I watched as others took on the challenge with renewed vigor. The instructors were fantastic, offering guidance and cheering participants on, adding to the overall positive atmosphere.

However, no adventure is without its drawbacks. The lack of proper restroom facilities was a notable downside. With only port-o-potties available, it was less than ideal, especially in such a high-touch environment. It’s an area that could certainly use improvement, considering the otherwise excellent facilities and safety measures in place.

Despite this, the Epic Sky Trek was an unforgettable experience. The combination of physical challenge, breathtaking views, and the sense of community made it a standout adventure. For those seeking a heart-pounding, sky-high thrill, this is a must-visit. Just remember to bring gloves and perhaps a bit of hand sanitizer!
