Terrific - This was a terrific tour - both under as well as above ground. Catania is a place where much of its history (due to earthquakes and volcanic eruption) lies beneath street level. Matilde is a delightful guide, sharing her love of the past with a view to the present. She showed us places we would have never found or even thought to seek out. Plus an entertaining commentary on present-day Catania made for an enjoyable and informative morning. Be sure to include it on your Sicily itinerary.

Fabulous Underground Catania - This was a great tour. Matilde was very knowledgable and told us lots of interesting information about the history of Catania and its landmarks. The underground areas were amazing and very interesting. I recommend this tour.

Interesting history lesson - Our guide was very nice and enthusiantic about the history of the city. We visited several underground caves and places which were located under old lava flows. Our guide told us many interesting parts of the catanian history. It was very informative!

Educational and fun. Nice break from the heat! - The most informative and enjoyable 3 hour tour with the best guide. A fun mix of history, folklore and beautiful sights.

Great historical tour of the hidden Catania - This was a very interesting tour and we got to see parts of Catania that we would never have found ourselves! Matilde was a very knowledgeable guide and gave us a great overview of the evolution of Catania over past centuries. She gave lots of tips as we travelled around to the various sites, and gave us some interesting personal perspectives on life in Catania. As it was a hot day we really appreciated the drink stop at the end to try a couple of local drinks! We did feel however that at times the tour was a little slow, so it could have been speeded up a bit. The other comment related to it being marketed on Viatour as a ‘private’ tour - which was not! It was relatively expensive - so not such great value given that there were seven of us from three different parties. It should be marketed as a ‘small group tour’! Also when I booked it was not apparent that it was GBP not AUD - so this made it an even more expensive exercise - very annoying Viatour!

Good tour but NOT private tour as promised - When I booked the tour, Viator description said it's a private tour. I asked and had confirmation that we will have a private tour. So I was surprised and rather disappointed to find 2 other people had shown up for our 'private' tour. The guide was very informative and engaging, but our experience was tempered by their business practice. If they intend to add people at their conenience to a tour, they should not advertise it as 'private'. Also be aware there can be fleas - possibly from the numerous street cats. I got 30 or so bites somewhere around the Gammazita Well. At least they don't itch...

Catania is dangerous! - Interesting city, yes, but please be careful! It regularly happens here that cars are stolen or the entire contents are cleared out of parked cars. Travellers are also attacked when cars are in traffic, for example. No Help center is expected from the police. I advise great mindfulness! Great if some have quiet and exclusively beautiful impressions, but this is absolutely not true for everyone here!
