The Necropolis, a pivotal locus of Etruscan civilization and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2004, spans a sweeping distance of over two kilometers. Undoubtedly, it stands as the most impressive of its kind in Etruria, and is one of the most splendid monuments throughout the Mediterranean region. The monumental graves, sited within tumuli, are partly hewn into the tufa stone and partly constructed upon it. Such edifices were built reflecting the aspiration of a few aristocratic lineages to flaunt their affluence and to continue a lifestyle of ultimate sophistication even after death. The discovery of an array of luxurious artifacts in these burials - such as precious metal dinnerware, goldsmith creations, illustrated urns, bronzes, items procured from Greece and the Near East, and various items of personal adornment including weapons, belts, razors, buckles, and trinkets, may prove this point. A minimum of 6 participants is required for this tour.
