• Wat Chaithararam (Wat Chalong) - Wat Chalong, formally known as Wat Chaiyathararam, is the most significant of Phuket’s 29 Buddhist temples. It honors two highly respected monks, Luang Pho Chaem and Luang Pho Chuang, who led the Chalong Subdistrict residents in the 1876 fight against the Chinese rebellion and used their herbal medicine knowledge to aid the injured. The large market at Wat Chalong extends into the temple grounds, featuring amplified pop music and Thai-fighting advertisements. The temple offers trinkets for sale, and the monks assist by storing boxes of items in their main prayer hall.
