Embark on a 2-day cross-border adventure from Chiang Mai to Luang Prabang by sleeper bus. Experience the White Temple and overnight comfort.
Your pick-up time from your Chiang Mai accommodation will be around 9:00 am, and you will embark on a 5-hour drive to Chiang Kong. Along the way, the minivan will make a stop at the Hot spring(Mae Ka Jan) or bus station for the restroom and then we will reach at Wat Rong Khun (White Temple) for a 50-minute break before continuing to Chiang Kong. Upon reaching Chiang Kong, you will be dropped off at The Thai Immigration post to complete the necessary procedures for leaving Thailand. Subsequently, we will cross over to Huay Xai on the Laos side, where the Lao Immigration authorities will process your entry. Once all immigration formalities are concluded, you will board a bus for a 12-hour ride to Luang Prabang. The transportation from Chiang Mai to Chiang Kong will be provided by a minibus, while the journey from Huay Xai to Luang Prabang will be on a spacious local sleeper bus.

This two-day transfer offers a cross-border journey from Thailand to Laos. Starting from Chiang Mai around 9:00 am, you’ll travel by minibus to Chiang Kong, with a stop at Wat Rong Khun (White Temple) en route. After processing at both Thai and Lao immigration posts, you’ll board a big local sleeper bus for the 12-hour ride to Luang Prabang. Remember to arrange your visa beforehand, as fees are not included. In Laos, sleeper buses feature two types of beds: single and large twin. Single beds are for individual passengers, arranged in rows, while large twin beds accommodate two travelers side by side. These buses are popular for overnight journeys, offering passengers flexibility in their sleeping arrangements. Additionally, the Loas transportation officer arranges the bus day by day, making it unpredictable and beyond passengers’ control or choice.
- The sleeper bus do not have a restroom on it but we stop every bus station.
