Simply the best. - When I planned a trip around Northern Thailand by motorcycle,my online search for a reputable company took me straight to Big Bike Tours in Chiang Mai.Initial contact via email immediately put me at ease with prompt and comprehensive responses to my questions. This quality of communication extended to the time of my arrival so I was completely at ease when I was collected by them from the airport and installed in a good quality hotel. It's difficult to summarise an exceptional eight day experience in just a few words but here are a few pointers Safety first. That does not mean no fun but experienced rider guides at the front and back of the group with back up truck. Well maintained bikes.I rode a BMW F800GS which proved ideal.New Michelin tyres. Regular stops for essential rehydration and rest breaks Superb routes offering the best riding that you can reasonably hope to experience. Rural and small town Northern Thailand which is so different to mainstream tourist areas. Very well considered evening food venues with authentic ,local cuisine . The bikes guides and mechanic all have a passion for what they do but also created some memorable, hilarious and unexpected late evenings, for those who wanted it. What more can you ask for?

Go with Big Bike Tours... worth every cent ! - 8 Day Northern Thailand Ride... ! When we looked at the options for our next ride, our ideal criteria included good quality roads (preferably winding through spectacular mountain regions at times), great food, boutique style accommodation, good weather, friendly people, a change in culture …. and a schedule that wasn’t too demanding while moving us on to different places, scenery & experiences. Thailand came to mind, but we weren’t sure whether to self-manage the ride - or take up with a tour group. Well, after our 8 day Northern Thailand Tour with Big Bike Tours, we all agreed (14 Aussie mates on tour) that we had made the right choice. Not only did it deliver everything mentioned above, but as you made your way through the magnificent northern regions of Thailand (and they are magnificent), you realised that you could relax and focus on your riding and the scenery. No worrying about the bikes, your luggage, the accommodation, where to grab a (great) meal during or at the end of the day, or where to stop to take in the scenery or a cultural site – or even where to fuel up the bikes. No worrying at all. It meant that as soon as you hopped off the bikes you could relax, reflect and chat – it’s a great feeling. A special mention to Kay who led the group, and Yay who drove the support van. They were fantastic company; patient, always available to help with anything, and always allowing riders to go at their own pace. In general we took our own gear, but were pleasantly surprised with the standard of “loan” gear offered by Big Bike Tours where required. The bottom line – a wonderful riding and life experience delivered by a well organised Tour company who know their stuff. We will be back….

Let the professionals worry about the details... - This was both the most I have ever spent on a guided tour and THE BEST USE OF CASH ever. Whilst on the surface tour guiding is a relatively simple proposition, it's the myriad of small things done well that accumulates into one of life's peak experiences. I'm very independent and travel solo more than most but this is a journey with some special risks (physical risks around speed/bikes, low familiarity with this road, language issues in case of emergencies). I found being in the care of professionals allowed me to far more completely just enjoy the riding. Friendly professional crew. Good quality everything. Highly recommended.

Wow! Incredible scenery, roads, riding, people, and exceptional food. An experience of a lifetime - The trip wildly exceeded my expectations to such a degree that I stayed in Chiang Mai and signed up for an additional three day tour the following week. After seeing Patty Doyle’s YouTube videos of him taking a scooter through Thailand and northern Vietnam, I knew I had to ride in one of those northern areas but on a larger motorcycle. I contacted Big Bike Tours via WhatsApp and the founder, Kay, patiently responded to a deluge of questions I had over WhatsApp and email. He suggested the unseen Thailand 8 day tour in October with their standard Kawasaki Versys 650. Comfortable bike and plenty of power, as it turns out. I agreed and turns out the experience was one of top three I’ve had in my 60 years and travel through 40+ countries. Riding past beautiful rice fields, small towns, each with their distinctive character. Buddhist temples everywhere, and views of mountains ahead. Then you get to the mountain roads that are ranked by many as top 10 motorcycling roads in the world for a good reason. Smooth pavement and a variety of mountainous terrain. At one point, I had a tear in my eye. One could guess that was road debris that got passed my glasses. Maybe it was just the beautiful scenery and the freedom riding a motorcycle. It was the latter. Certainly not riding for the faint of heart. “Safety fast” is a Big Bike Tours motto and fast is not a translation error. Passing scooters, cars, and various farm equipment was a regular occurrence. Oh, watch out for the random stray dogs that didn’t seem too worried about crossing the road in front of speeding motorcyclists. Noah was our a guide and kept us safe from various things ahead and emphasized that everyone ride at their own pace. As an added bonus, he had worked for years at restaurants. It was clear that passion has not gone away. He found some of the most amazing local restaurants. At the end of a particularly good section of road we would regroup to fist bumps and Noah would exclaim “Wow!” Often followed by “just wait, it gets better”. Never disappointed.
