Highlights
  • Municipal Market of Chania - Follow this laid-back walking tour of Chania and find what makes Crete’s cultural capital so marvelous. Explore with us some of the Old Town’s best sights, and visit a mix of famous spots, historic haunts, and hidden gems while discovering the lesser-known Ottoman and Jewish quarters. Get ready to experience Chania with all your senses!

We’ll begin your Chania tour at the Dimotiki Agora (Municipal Market), which denotes the boundary between the old and new town. Established in 1913, the year of Crete’s unification with Greece, the Agora hosts more than 70 family-owned businesses selling mostly local groceries and products. Sample local delicacies while exploring the market and find out why Crete is home to one of the healthiest diets in the world.

  • Chania Town - After fulfilling your taste buds, we’ll stroll around the old town district by passing through its maze of hidden back streets and narrow laneways, visiting Venetian and Ottoman monuments, and discovering doors to secret gardens! Hear stories, myths, and legends about kings, sailors, merchants, heroes, lovers, and artists. Figure out how this city has been a crossroad between the West and East for centuries!

Next, you’ll have the unique chance to see local craftsmen producing their handmade products. Hear their stories — and possibly test your skills!

Continuing your tour, meander through the old Jewish and Ottoman neighbourhoods and learn how multiculturalism has changed locals’ life through the centuries.

  • Old Venetian Harbor - Finally, after walking along the historic harbour’s promenade, you’ll relax your muscles in a local-favourite spot where you’ll enjoy an enticing table with Cretan mezedes (local tapas).

Our tour will come to an end either here where it’s the perfect place to continue your own exploration through the city, or we could take you back to the starting point. Before we part ways, don’t forget to ask your local guide for more hints and tips on how to get the best of your trip to amazing Chania.

  • Splantzia - Splantzia is one of the most unique neighborhoods in Chania city. It is located on the south of the eastern part of the Old Venetian Harbour. This beautiful neighborhood is one of the “hidden treasures” of Chania city, which is known only to the locals and the well-informed travelers.

Great tour guide - The meeting point was just a few minutes walk from Princess complementary shuttle drop off stop. I thought it will be a small group of 6, it turned out there were 9 of us on the tour, mostly from the cruise, but that was fine as the tour guide Andonis was wonderful. He was personable, full of energy and super enthusiastic on introducing us to Chania. Our family all enjoyed it.

Chania Greece Small group food tour - Manos is an extraordinary tour leader who has a in depth knowledge of Crete/Chania and its history and happily shares that with his tour (there were only 5 of us in our tour which made it feel so personal) and Manos made us feel like a cousin was showing us around Chania tasting all the fabulous foods and sweets and the most delicious Raki I have ever tasted. I strongly recommend this tour, if you love food and want to see many sights and experiences from a wonderful local (Manos) in Chania Greece. He also provided many recommendations for our stay in Chania (Manos always goes above and beyond to please and help people in his tour) Thank you Manos, my kids (teenagers) and I loved your tour

A great and delicious introduction to Chania and Crete! - We absolutely loved our tour with Adonis! He was very warm and humorous and a fantastic history teacher. We had three teens and they had a great time tasting delicious food and learning about the history of Chania and Crete. They were still talking about the tour later in the day. This is a great thing to do especially on your first day in Crete as you can get many recommendations from the host about things to do and where to eat in Crete!

Wonderful introduction to Chania - My husband and I enjoy walking food tours as a way to be introduced to and learn about new places and the culture. We were not disappointed with this tour! Manos was an excellent guide to the city of Chania, its history, culture and food. My husband and I found the tour to be a nice mix of walking/discovering the neighborhoods/learning and eating & drinking. We were on a schedule for sure, but never once felt rushed. It was a comfortable, relaxed pace. Not only did we have a good tour (and excellent food and drink), but Manos later sent each of us a written summary of where we had gone as well as recommendations for other places to go and other restaurants to try -- and group pictures as well! We tried a couple of his recommendations and they were excellent.
