Additional Information

It was likely the Daily Telegraph that suggested a unique reason to tour each Greek island a few years ago. For Crete, the main lure was the cuisine. Local residents would undoubtedly concur, as while 90% of the Greek islands possess unrivaled allure, Crete adds to that appeal with the highest-grade food. Clearly, a culinary exploration of the city would be an excellent decision.

This journey will present you with the chance to savor an array of indigenous produce, supplied by outstanding Cretan producers. From the emblematic Raki / Tsikoudia, to the Cretan Bougatsa, the indigenous varieties of Cheese, olives, and even the finest confections.

To make this tour stand out, we’ve incorporated a trip to a local herb and products shop, (a hidden jewel among locals), as well as a tour of the premier traditional Cretan knife maker.

In sum, if a person is visiting Crete to immerse themselves in its genuine character, this tour is exactly what they need.

Excellent Food Tour! - We had a lovely morning walking to the various eateries with Christos, our guide, who shared with us his love of Chania and some of the history of Crete. We enjoyed all the food, from bougatsa, to cheeses, to honey, and more, but my favorite was visiting the herb shop of Yannis, where I bought teas and herbs. I would highly recommend this food tour.

Fantastic food tasting tour! - What a fabulous tour! Just as I'd hoped, it was a great introduction to Chania and to its food, taking us to all kinds of places we would never otherwise have found. We especially loved the herb shop which we went back to later in the holiday to buy extra tea and oil to take home with us. It was Christos who made it though. What a really really lovely guy, the best company and full of interesting stories about Chania, past and present. A great ambassador for the city and the island, and gave me and my 18-year old son lots of food for thought (excuse the pun). Highly recommended! Thanks so much, Christos. Greetings from London :-)

A Highly Recommended Food Tour - Our guide Kristos was just as authentic as the Cretan dishes we were able to get to know on our walk through the city center of Chania. We found the group size of six people to be perfect. In the restaurants and stores we visited, we found a successful mix of typical local specialities, snacks and desserts. It was immediately apparent that these were not touristic spots, but places where the locals were in the know. Apart from information about the food, Kristos also showed us other interesting places away from the touristic hustle and bustle, such as a quiet part of the old town and a knife forge. From my point of view, a very positive aspect is that there was always enough food at every stop, but that we didn't end up feeling full. The distance we walked was also perfect. Not too much and not too little.

Wonderful, authentic experience! - A wonderful day out with a wonderful tour guide! This small independent company knows all the local spots. I was a little at first because we didn’t go straight into the old town like many other food tours, but it soon down to me that the old town is where the tourist go, and that this guide knew all of the local spots off the beaten path. Delicious locally made cheeses, olives, a visit to the pastry shop where Gordon Ramsey learned how to make his more authentic, massive kebap(!), desserts, and a hands-on learning experience with a Greek herbalist—everything was top notch, and most importantly, AUTHENTIC. And yes, At the end of the tour, he took us into the old town and gave us the back alleys and side streets away from the tourist traps to some of the most unique cafés in the city. 100% would recommend if you are a true foodie!

Excellent culinsary walking tour in Chania! - We had an amazing time with Christos on the walking food tour of Chania! Christos did a wonderful job of picking out special places he knows well to give us a sample of many great treats in Chania. He knows the area well having been born and raised there. He was very knowledgeable and shared many great insights about the history of Crete and Chania as well as each establishment we visited. Christos was patient and just a wonderful guide. The Gyros stop on the afternoon session was amazing! as were all the stops. Highly recommend this tour.

Christos took us to places that looked unremarkable but have amazing dishes as well as lovely places off the beaten path. The herbal shop was a wonderful addition! Christos’ historical insights were a treat. We loved every bit this tour!!

A great way to eat your way around Chania - Christos is a fantastic host, who is both humorous and knowledgable about local history. We went to a range of interesting food places (I won’t give any spoilers) and he catered to everyone’s palates. He did take us to a organic shop mid tour, which I was a bit “forced” to try and hard sell products and we spent too long there but in fairness everyone bought something willingly, even myself, who never gets drawn into hard selling. Every stop provided bottled water so there is no need to come prepared, just turn up and enjoy the hours seeing Chania.
