Elafonissi Beach - Situated 76km west of Chania at the southwestern tip of Crete, Elafonissi is a unique location. It is an oblong landform that often “splits” into two parts by water, creating the illusion of a separate island. Elafonissi is a protected “Natura 2000” area, rich with sand dunes, sand lilies, and junipers (similar to cedar trees). The island serves as a nesting ground for the endangered Caretta-Caretta turtles and other rare species, and it is strictly prohibited to remove any plants or animals from the area. The beach is exotic, with white sand and turquoise waters reminiscent of the Caribbean, found on both sides of the peninsula. The sand appears pinkish in many areas due to the presence of countless broken shells. Near the “splitting” point of the peninsula, the water is less than 1m deep, forming a small lagoon perfect for children. Visitors can easily cross the lagoon to reach the “island,” carrying their belongings, as the water is very shallow.

Elos - Elos is a quaint village with a few stone houses, where most residents are involved in agriculture and cattle breeding. This charming, traditional village is located 60km southwest of Chania Town, near Kissamos on the western part of Crete. Elos is surrounded by chestnut trees, creating a picturesque landscape and providing a bountiful harvest. To celebrate the arrival of autumn and showcase the chestnut harvest, the local community hosts the Chestnut Festival. This small yet authentic event allows Elos to display its chestnut produce and attracts many curious visitors over the weekend, which is dedicated to this remarkable celebration.
