From the first moment feeling like one big family - My sour dough bread experience was amazing!! From the time of pick up to drop off was nothing but feeling like part of a family. They had you get involved right off the bat and the time flew by so fast because it was involvement, learning, experience, tasting, laughter, and just total FUN. All this came easy for the instructors involved. You could tell “they” were having fun as well. Totally natural for them.
I will definitely pass this on to anyone I know going to Chania, or Crete for that matter.
A forever remembered experience in my life. I hope I get to go again one day.

Great experience, great company - My husband and I took the sourdough baking class and had an amazing time. Nikos and Alex were so personable, friendly, funny, and really made us feel at home. Conversation was easy and we really enjoyed seeing their home/garden where they grow produce and olives. They even have the cutest puppies you will see!
In total, it was just 5 of us with Alex and Nikos, so it felt really intimate. They cooked us a lovely meal - pork and fava beans - to go with the bread and Greek salad we made ourselves. We also got to have some fun guessing different olive oils they made themselves from their olive trees. Leftovers were still delicious and bread stayed soft. We spent about 4.5 hours and it was one of the best things we did while in Crete. Highly recommend!

Great Greek Immersion - The highlight of our trip, an authentic experience with a warm, welcoming family! Our hosts, Nikos and Alex, were fun and knowledgeable. Not only did we learn about sourdough bread making, we also learned about herbs they grew in the garden, and how to make Greek fava. Delicious!! We also walked around their olive grove and Nikos told us about how they keep their trees healthy and producing. One of the best parts was all sitting down together to eat our breads, fava, ash roasted potatoes, Greek salad, and tasting four different types of olive oil, while talking about family and experiences! Then we were joined by sister Veerna (the one who created the business Veerna’s Kitchen) and brother Kostas (Alex’s father), to add to the family atmosphere! Kostas is the one who renovated the building and outdoor cooking & dining area, and it’s fabulous. I hope many others will get to enjoy this experience, where you are treated as family and enjoy delicious food! Thank you all so much! Veerna, thank you for coming back to join us after you had already had a long day with your morning cooking class!

A MUST!!! - The Sourdough making class exceeded our expectations! Half way through the class I told my husband, I’m going to book the cooking class! This is a very close family that have the greatest love and respect for each other and it shows! We were greeted by Nik and Alex, they treated us like family, entertained all of our questions and gave us memories we’ll never forget! The food was absolutely delicious:) 100% Recommend!! Thank you Veerna’s Kitchen!

Wonderful Experience! - A terrific family experience! The hosts were warm and welcoming and masters at teaching bread baking which is baked in their outdoor brick oven. They showed us around their lovely grove of olive trees and mountain herbs they transplant in their garden. After the bread was baked, we tasted each guests loaf along with the host’s varied olive oil creations and light dinner. Both my 14 year old grandson and I will always remember this wonderful evening.

You will love this class, and the bread is delicious, too! - What a very fun class! We loved making sourdough bread from starter that is 65 years old. We learned the history of the sourdough starter in Greece, and how it is started on September 14 within the Greek Orthodox Church. We love learning the culture, and history, along with the techniques for making delicious bread! Veerna has such a beautiful place to hold her cooking classes. While we waited for the dough to rise, we were outside exploring the olive tree orchard, the herb garden, and were even fortunate enough to play with new puppies and watch the young goslings next door. The timing is so well balanced, we didn’t find ourselves waiting for bread to rise. We were busy learning to make a Greek salad, learning how to make delicious fava beans, and watching as pork was prepared for our picnic. Once the dough had risen, we gathered around dishes of seeds, rosemary, olives, dried tomatoes, and cheese to add to our dough to flavor our loaves. Once baked, we were able to sample flavored olive oils; orange, rosemary, garlic and spicy, using the loaf of seed bread. Other breads were sliced, to enjoy with the pork, beans, and salad. I hadn’t read enough to realize we would get an entire meal, I just knew learning from them was so much fun that we wanted this second class with them after we had done the Chania Cooking Class. Alex made a loaf of sweet bread, with carob powder and seeds, that we enjoyed with fresh yogurt topped with bergamot, and served with cinnamon raki. Yamas! We enjoyed visiting and learning about their family, and a new grandson arriving soon. We shared photos, and saw some of Veerna’s crocheting talent. It was like having lunch with friends, laughing and visiting throughout the meal. Each couple bought one of Veerna’s aprons to use at home, with the recipes of the meal that they emailed to us, and to help us remember what a wonderful time we shared together. After our delicious lunch, we were given to-go boxes for all our leftovers, and all the bread we hadn’t consumed was wrapped for us to take. We had to fly back to Athens that night, so, once through security, the six of us opened our leftovers and bread, and had a picnic right there in the Heraklion airport while we awaited our plane.

Authentic, cozy and delicious bread. - Last September, I gave my parents a baking course in sourdough bread as a gift on the occasion of my father's birthday. The contact with Jacob was very pleasant from the start; he thought along with me when I had to tell my parents the right location remotely, and was even waiting for them outside, which was greatly appreciated. (Location is located outside the center of Chania)
The course itself was given by Veerna, among others, who led the group of a total of 8 participants through the baking process in a very fun and involved way. She took the time for everyone, so everyone could participate at their own pace and learn the right techniques. The ingredients were of good quality and everything was done in the authentic way, which made the experience very special. The table was full of all kinds of Greek dishes, different kinds of olive oil, and of course you had the opportunity to taste your own bread.
The atmosphere was cozy and relaxed, and it was clear that Veerna and her family are incredibly passionate about what they do. They even toasted my father's birthday several times, which made the day even more special. In addition, Veerna made the extra gesture to share a specific recipe with my parents.
The location was also beautiful, which made the whole experience even more beautiful. In short, I highly recommend this baking course to anyone interested in sourdough bread and want to experience a unique, fun day. It was an unforgettable experience for my parents and a wonderful gift.
