Highlights
  • Elafonissi Beach - Elafonissi Beach, renowned for its Pink Coral Sand, is celebrated globally according to top travel guides. The beach appears to split into two parts by water, giving the illusion of a separate island. Elafonissi is a protected area under the “Natura 2000” network. The island features dunes with sand lilies and junipers (similar to cedar trees). It serves as a nesting ground for the endangered Caretta-Caretta turtles and other rare species, and removing any plants or animals from the area is strictly prohibited. The beach boasts exotic white sand and turquoise waters reminiscent of the Caribbean, with pinkish hues in many areas due to crushed shells.

Near the peninsula’s “breaking” point, the water is shallow, not exceeding 1 meter, creating a small lagoon perfect for children. The eastern side of the beach, in front of the lagoon, is well-organized and the most popular.

  • Elos - Elos Chestnut village is well-known among locals for its stunning natural beauty, featuring a magnificent chestnut forest and traditional tavernas that offer a unique culinary experience rooted in Cretan nutrition.

Wonderful (pinkish) beach day - Communication in advance was very good. While the beach was definitely why we were all there, the honey store had an excellent presentation that nicely broke up the trip on the way. I wouldn't have needed the lunch stop on the way back, but perhaps others enjoyed glimpsing another small village. The beach was lovely. We were there early enough that the crowds were light, chairs were available and you could find a patch of sand with no one else around. As others have mentioned, the sand isn't all pink, but take a stroll and you'll definitely find pink patches. There's also a nice (E4) hike heading south along the coast. It is fenced off before you reach the next beach, but it was a pretty and well-marked trail (need good shoes - a lot of rock scrambling). It was a pretty full bus, so there were a lot of pick-ups and drop offs (for which I was on the first pick-up and one of the last drop offs). That made the day a bit long, but as long as you plan for that, it's a relaxing and fairly scenic ride.

Walking in water - The bus was comfortable and our guide was very informative and attentive. The beach was beautiful and walking so far into the water and on to the sand dunes. It was a fun experience.

Wonderfully relaxing day! - Our guide was great. The bus trip was seamless. Loved having a small bus. We were a bit disappointed in so many reviews saying that the drive was terrible - as we would easily have driven ourselves in our hire car. Having said that, it was nice to just enjoy the ride and chat. We found the time at the beach was great. We easily got an umbrella, and had a really relaxing time. Lunch at Elos was good! Visit to Agia Sofia cave was also enjoyable.

Good Tour - Overall we enjoyed the tour. The beach was really nice. It takes about a 15 minute walk to get to the beach from the car park. Probably the only negative thing was that the bus had to pick up so many people on the way so lots of stops, by the time we got to the beach it was extremely crowded. So no lounges or umbrellas on the shore were available. On the way back we stopped at a little town called Elos which we had some amazing traditional Greek food. Then lots of drop off’s on the way back. But overall it was worth it.

The driver and tour guide... - The driver and tour guide were very nice people. The walk to and from the beach to drop off and pick up was very far it’s ok for young people but not so much for us older folk

Great Experience - Elafonisi beach is beautiful and I would highly recommend a visit. Our tour guide was very good, who provided us interesting and insightful information throughout the the tour. The stop off in the local village seemed a bit pointless though, and we would have preferred more time on the beach.

elefonissi beach trip ! - overrated I struggled to see any pink beach so don't get too excited yo may see a slight pink colour close to the waters edge when I was there it was whipping up sand in your face but apparently it does this most of the time so don't expect to chill out on the shores and take in a few rays also it gets very overcrowded so finding a spot to take a selfie was almost impossible all in all a disappointing day trip I wished I'd have saved my money and had a few more beers
