History brought to life - We chose Eric for our tour specifically because of his background as a history professor, and he truly exceeded all of our expectations. His depth of knowledge was remarkable, but what really set him apart were the engaging anecdotes that brought history to life in a way that felt personal and immersive. Eric keeps his groups small, which ensures a more intimate and tailored experience, and he welcomes questions throughout the tour. If you're looking to explore Charleston in a meaningful way, look no further—booking with Eric will leave you with a deeper, richer understanding of this charming and beautiful city.

Best Walking Tour of Historic Charleston! - Eric Lager is a wealth of knowledge! This historical tour was the most informative walking tour that I have ever taken. Eric gladly entertained questions, while moving the tour along. Fantastic!

The Best History Tour - We had our second tour with Professor Lager. He is a great tour guide. Earlier in his career, he was a guide at many places including Historic Williamsburg. From these experiences, he knows how to tell stories and keep people engaged. He later went on to get his PhD in history in important periods in South Carolina history. So his tours now are very layered, and interesting. Don't just see a local who knows a few things. Eric is the real deal.

In depth knowledge - Great experience with a small group. Professor is so knowledgable and personable. Learned about American Revolution and Covil War in Houston, visited an old theater, saw beautiful homes, and thoroughly covered the area that was once within the wall around Charleston. Walk was easy!

Best Tour of Charleston - This tour was the highlight of our trip. Eric’s passion for the city and it’s people is reflected in his personal and professional knowledge about history, historical figures, and architecture. As an independent guide, he didn’t come across as rehearsed which made the experience feel genuine and engaging. Highly recommend!

This is the best tour! - I cannot say enough good things about Eric. He is an excellent guide! Being a Ph.D. history professor, he is an encyclopedia on Charleston and American history! And he is a passionate teacher with a good sense of humor. He patiently answered all of our questions. We learned so much! His tour was worth every penny. If you want to learn accurate history with the best guide, this is the tour for you! We passed other tours which were very crowded. Eric only takes smaller groups, which makes the experience more personable. His direct website is CharlestonHistoryWalk.com (which is the best way to book).

Wonderful afternoon - I spent a wonderful afternoon learning so much of Charleston’s history. Our guide was super knowledgable and went into so much depth explaining the cultural, political and social aspects of Charleston dating back to the 17 century. Along the tour he pointed out architectural highlights giving credit to the specific artists and/or architects. It was totally worth the time and $.

Me and my wife's tour with Eric - Eric did an excellent job with the tour. He not only went over events but he went on the cause-and-effect aspect of those events. He also gave details that was able to answer my own personal questions of these events as well. Being a history buff myself, it was a very informative and great experience for both me and my wife! Worth every penny!

Interesting Tour of a Unique City! - This tour with Eric was very, very GOOD! It was full of historical information, but was presented so that the information was quick paced and interesting. Our whole family felt like we had a really good feel for the historical center of the city when we were done.
