The Patriot Escape guides participants to several National Historic Landmarks and numerous significant sites related to the American Revolution in Charleston. As a Patriot “Spy,” participants must navigate their way out of the city without being caught, which is determined by the time taken to complete the Escape.

This escape is crafted for both avid hobby historians and professional historians, offering an accurate depiction of events in Charleston nearly 250 years ago during British occupation. Please note, the scavenger hunt typically involves around 2 hours of walking and will lead participants into neighborhoods and other landmarks that are difficult to discover independently. Embark on a journey back to the 1700s with this Self-Guided Patriot Escape Scavenger Hunt! Participants will begin with complimentary access to the Fireproof Museum and receive guidance on how to “escape” the British occupation of Charleston.

Upon receiving the instruction packet, participants will trace the path of a Patriot Spy attempting to flee the city, uncovering numerous hidden treasures such as historic buildings, secret alleyways, and artifacts. These sites are intricately linked to the American Revolution’s impact on Charleston and reveal how certain events influenced other colonies.

This is the ONLY historically accurate scavenger hunt crafted by three local historians specializing in the American Revolution.
