• Charlotte Amalie - Charlotte Amalie, the capital and largest city of the U.S. Virgin Islands, located on St. Thomas, was established in 1666 as Taphus and renamed in 1691 in honor of Danish Queen Charlotte Amalie. The city features a deep-water harbor, once a pirate haven, now a major cruise ship port welcoming over 1.5 million passengers annually. Originally, the area was home to Caribs, Arawaks, Ciboney, and Taíno native peoples before Columbus arrived in 1493. The city is known for its Danish colonial architecture and landmarks such as St. Thomas Synagogue, Frederick Lutheran Church, Blackbeard’s Castle, Bluebeard’s Castle, and Fort Christian. Emancipation Park, a source of national pride and a tourist attraction, houses a replica of the Liberty Bell and a statue of a freed slave blowing a conch shell.
• Brewer’s Bay - Brewer’s Bay is a hidden gem with a sunlit shore flanked by lush green hills on the right and the University of the Virgin Islands campus on the left. It is one of the calmest beaches on St. Thomas, with crystal-clear water. It is a favorite spot for Green Sea Turtles and Hawksbill Turtles. The sandy seafloor deepens gradually, providing an easy sloped entry, making it ideal for wading and swimming.
• Neltjeberg Bay - Experience paradise with a stunning sandy shoreline and solitude. The beach offers views of Inner Brass, a small island. This local hideaway is great for swimming and decent snorkeling. Take a stroll along the beach, where a wild tangle of coconut palms offers excellent photo opportunities. Look for a swing in a coconut tree near the water for some fun. Plantation ruins, including a factory, animal mill, stable, slave quarters, and dry-stone walls, are tucked in the trees just off the beach. These ruins, dating back to the late 1700s–early 1800s when the island was under Danish rule, appear eerily guarded by the trees and vines that have reclaimed the site.
• Mountain Top - For over 50 years, the World Famous Mountain Top has been the #1 tourist attraction in the Virgin Islands! With breathtaking views from their Observation Deck 1500 ft above Magens Bay, visitors can see more than 15 islands and cays, including Magens Bay, St. John, and the British Virgin Islands. As one of the island’s first attractions, Mountain Top is renowned for its world-famous banana daiquiri and extensive duty-free shopping. Perched atop St. Peter Mountain is the Caribbean’s largest duty-free gift shop, bar, and observation deck with sweeping views of the British Virgin Islands.
• Drake’s Seat - Located on the North side of St. Thomas, Drake’s Seat is a popular tourist destination offering a panoramic view of Magens Bay Beach. This spot is easily recognized by an open lookout area on one side of the road and a distinctive green bench labeled “The Drake Seat” on the other. According to local legend, it was built by Sir Francis Drake, an English privateer, who used this vantage point to watch for approaching enemy ships.
• Skyline Drive - Capture one last amazing photo of the stunning emerald waters and islands surrounding St. Thomas before descending the mountain to Charlotte Amalie! Skyline Drive Overlook provides a beautiful panoramic harbor view, including Charlotte Amalie below, Hassel Island, Water Island, the cruise ship docks, and more! Typically, a vendor or two is set up for one last chance at a souvenir!
• Skyride to Paradise Point - Although the drive up the mountain is preferred over the Skyride, the view at Paradise Point is breathtaking. On clear days, you can see all the way to Puerto Rico and St. Croix. In addition to the stunning view, on cruise ship days, there is a bar and restaurant open for lunch, “Taste,” where you can enjoy their world-famous Baileys® Bushwacker. There are also many local souvenir shops and the brand new Skywalk! After 5 pm, “Prime at Paradise Point,” one of the island’s best steakhouses, is open.
• Havensight Mall - Marley Natural/Ocean Safari/Caribbean Surf Co. - Local shopping is an option instead of the next beach stop.
• St. Thomas - Hidden Gem - This medium-sized sandy beach offers a relaxed atmosphere in a beautiful cove, with plenty of shade trees and numerous picnic tables for a day-long visit. Several swings are hidden around the area—try to find them all! Walk down the beach towards the east, where it narrows for better views of the island and Green Cay, just off the shore. This cay and the surrounding area are excellent for snorkeling, with a variety of fish, starfish, turtles, and other sea life in the waters.
• Red Hook - Red Hook/Cabrita Point - Red Hook is the anchor of the East End of St. Thomas, offering a vibrant hub with a marina, fishing and boating excursions, ferries, island-style shops, restaurants, bars, offices, banks, and more! Stroll along the marina to admire the boats or see what anglers have caught and brought ashore. Cabrita Point offers one of the most unique and picturesque views of St. John. Even if you’ve visited St. Thomas multiple times, it’s likely you’ve never been to this spot! Just past Vessup Beach (a local hideout) and the Ritz Carlton, the loop around Cabrita Point is home to beautiful villas with panoramic views that make you feel as if you’re on the waterway between St. Thomas and St. John.
