- Archaeological Site of Chavin - Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before departing at 8am on our exclusive First Class Huaraz bus for a journey to the ancient archaeological capital of Chavin de Huantar. We’ll head south from Huaraz, passing through the quaint village of Recuay at an altitude of 3300 meters above sea level. We’ll cross the Santa River to explore the charming villages on the left bank, including Huacapampa, and continue amidst groves of eucalyptus trees and pastoral communities of sheep herders. Joining the main road, we’ll travel through the highland meadows dotted with straw, making our way to the scenic Querococha Lake at 3980 meters above sea level for a photo opportunity against the stunning backdrop. Our ascent continues to the highest point at the Tunel de Cahuish pass, which stands at 4500 meters above sea level, marking the hydrographic divide where waters to the west flow towards the Pacific Ocean and those to the east head towards the Atlantic Ocean. We’ll then wind our way down the narrow valley in a zig-zag fashion, following the Rio Mosna along the riverbanks until we reach the Archaeological site of Chavin. The historic ruins are situated adjacent to the contemporary district of Chavin, where we plan to arrive around 1pm.
