Additional Information

One of Chengdu’s most popular attractions, this panda park 18km north of the city centre is the easiest way to glimpse Sichuan’s most famous residents. Don’t, however, make the mistake of thinking you’ll be seeing wild pandas. They are kept in large enclosures and have a dedicated team of scientists and keepers tending to their every need. As well as living, breathing pandas, there are some fascinating panda information centres and museums explaining panda conservation and husbandry.

Home to nearly 120 giant and 76 red pandas, the base focuses on getting these notoriously love-shy creatures to breed and has been remarkably successful at it. March to May is the ‘falling in love period’ (wink wink). If you visit during summer or autumn, you may see tiny newborns in the nursery incubators.

Bella and the pandas were awesome - This was my first panda experience. I was thrilled to be able to see these animals in person. The weather was very warm and humid, so all the pandas were inside, which was unfortunate. For someone like me who doesn't speak Chinese, it was great having a tour guide who spoke English. My tour guide was Bella, and she was awesome. I never felt rushed, she answered all my questions, was very personable. Highly recommended!

Great tour with a great tour guide! - I booked this trip for our son who is traveling through China after recently graduating from college. Just moments after booking the trip, Bella contacted me to get contact details for our son. I was immediately impressed with her level of professionalism. She met our son and gave him a fantastic tour of this facility. He thoroughly enjoyed his time with her and said she was an excellent guide. From my view, if you can impress a 22 year old male, you will be able to impress anyone. Thank you Bella!

My visit to the Chengdu... - My visit to the Chengdu Research Base was amazing, thanks to our guide, Wu. He took us to the less crowded parts of the park, allowing for a peaceful and intimate experience with the pandas. Wu's knowledge and passion for the pandas made the visit truly special. Highly recommend requesting Wu for a unique and memorable experience!

Pandas are so cute - The tour guide Daniel used his experience with getting us to the site eat to maximise the tour and seeing the panda before the crowds turned up

Great trip with a great guide. - Rosalie (hope I spelt the name correctly) was my dedicated guide for the day. She was knowledgeable and provided snippets of information throughout the entire programme. While it was unfortunate that I came during summer (June) where most of the pandas had been moved to the indoor exhibitions, we were still able to view many pandas in their “I wonder how they survived in the wild” glory. Rosalie knew the park layout at the back of her hand and was able to guide me through the park especially away from the crowds and the pandas were. For others, I was told winter period would be a better period to visit as (a) it would be colder, hence the pandas would be in the outdoor exhibits; and (b) lesser crowds.

Stress free trip - Me and my family had an amazing time. Our tour guide was exceptional- very kind and knowledgeable. We were very impressed with the organisation as managed to get to front of queues when parts of the park opened. Transport to and from the park was great. No stress at all.

Pandas are beautiful! - The pandas are amazing! The park is very big. It was very crowded and busy, I recommend going in the morning because the pandas are awake, in the afternoon they usually sleep

A day in the park - A nice day in the park and enjoying watching pandas (in summer mostly they are indoor to cool down) and the red panda , more active and can be viewed in their natural environment. Well connected by subway and bus 408 that takes you there directly

Nice activity in Chengdu - Going to the Chengdu Panda Research Base is very nice in any case, but to see the pandas outside in hot weather, go there very early!
