Embracing Chengdu’s Culinary Heritage
Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province, is a city that thrives on its rich culinary traditions and vibrant cultural tapestry. As the weekend unfolds under a blanket of overcast skies, the city offers a perfect setting for indulging in its indoor delights. The weather, with its cool temperatures and high humidity, invites you to explore the warmth of Chengdu’s culinary heart.
Begin your journey with the Evening Foodie Adventure on either February 8th or 9th, starting at 6:00 PM. This tour takes you through the hidden alleys and bustling streets of Chengdu, where local family-owned restaurants and snack shops reveal the secrets of Sichuan’s famed cuisine. As you wind through the city on a Tuk-tuk, you’ll sample over a dozen local delicacies, from the spicy Dan Dan noodles to the tender Chengdu dumplings. The tour is not just about food; it’s a cultural immersion, offering a glimpse into the daily lives of Chengdu’s residents.
Review (2019-12-30): Fantastic local food choices! The whole trip was by Tuk Tuk, which was a great way to get around the busy streets of Chengdu. All the food stalls in this trip were great and more importantly, very local. Wouldn’t think twice when booking this tour in the future!
A Night of Tradition and Entertainment
As the evening sets in, Chengdu’s cultural scene comes alive with the Sichuan Hotpot and Face-Changing Show available on both February 8th and 9th, starting at 5:30 PM. This experience combines the fiery flavors of Sichuan hotpot with the mesmerizing art of face-changing, a traditional performance unique to the region.
Your evening begins with a hotpot dinner, where you can choose between spicy and non-spicy broths, and cook a variety of meats, vegetables, and seafood at your table. After dinner, a short walk through Qintai Culture Road leads you to a local tea house, where the face-changing show awaits. The performance is a celebration of Sichuan’s creative history, featuring acrobatics, music, and humor, all culminating in the magical face-changing act.
Review (2017-11-12): Great class - Cooking classes are usually one of my favorite types of tours and this tour was no exception. Really a lot of fun learning about hot pot cooking. The face-changing show was okay, nothing amazing.

Chengdu is a city that rewards those who venture off the beaten path. Beyond its famous pandas and bustling markets, the city offers a wealth of hidden gems waiting to be discovered. The overcast weekend provides an ideal backdrop for exploring these lesser-known treasures.
