The Dujiangyan Irrigation System, first built around 256BC by the Qin Dynasty for water management and flood control purposes, remains in operation today. The system is located on the Min River, which is the longest tributary of the Yangtze River. This area is situated on the western side of the Chengdu Plain, where the Sichuan basin meets the Tibetan plateau. The Dujiangyan, along with the Zhengguo Canal in Shaanxi and the Lingqu Canal in Guangxi, are referred to as the ‘three remarkable hydraulic engineering feats of the Qin.’
Also situated in Dujiangyan, Sichuan, China is Mount Qingcheng. This mountain is recognized as one of the founding locations of Taoism and stands as an important Taoist site in the country. Besides, it is home to the Dujiangyan Giant Panda Center and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Despite its modest height of 1,260 meters (4,133 feet), Mount Qingcheng is a popular spot for day hiking in the region surrounding Chengdu.
