Great tour! - Visited French colonial area in Pondicherry also temple,church and Aurobindo ashram.After lunch we visited auroville town.

Super tour of a beautiful town. - Wonder Tours has been good to me so I took a 3rd tour with them on this trip. Rajesh knows much about the history of India and keeps me interested as I learn more about the area. Pondicherry is a great trip and the visit to Auroville was interesting.

Why should a travel wanderlust plan a visit to Pondicherry in India? - Firstly I must apologise for not writing much about Pondichery, an union territory of India and an old French colony of the past that's about cool three and half hours drive through a scenic coastel route called ECR that lies to South of Chennai .It could also be reached through the grand southern trunk road and taking the 4 lane express way branching of to pondicherry at the entry of Tindivanam Flyover . Pondicherry has always held a great charm for travellers far and wide be it for it's colonial type of buildings ,fantastic fusion of French and Indian cuisines and Spiritual awakening, thanks to the presence of Aurobindho Ashram and It's Auroville township the holds the World famous Matri Mandir in it's centre . So, friends across the globe if you are looking for a great travel experience and more so if you have become a seeker to know who you are ,plan well and pack up you bags and head to India and Pondichery Preferably during the cool.months between November to february with advance booking scouring through reknown travel portals like Trip Adviser . Trust me A new world awaits you with rare gems for a wanderlust traveller. I also speak of a Trip to Thiruvannamalai or Arunachala hill, that just a few hours drive from Pondichery ,that hold a great spiritual awakening experience in the famous Ramana Ashram ,where one will be initiated to start a new journey inward with a quest " Whom am I " Now coming back to Pondicery and it's tranquil beach abuting the blue ocean called Bay of Bengal and let me take you to what's in store . Taka a walk or cycle through well laid out symmetrically parallel Streets that leads to to the beautiful promanade, that holds several Colonial Heritage buildings each with its own Individual character of its erstwhile French residents in its ancient Colonial history. The tree lined streets with bright pastal colours and hues of various facades will surely mesmerise you. A trip to the Aurobindo Ashram that was created way back in 1926 by Sri Aurobindo and his spiritual buddy The Mother (Mirra Alfassa) is a must for any traveller .Its a community center for integral yoga and meditative practices and located within the heart of Pondicherry. The serene meditation halls, its luscious gardens will let you wander in real peace . The next thing you want to do is to take a stroll on the promenade in thecevening and take in it's enchanting beach and view of the clear blue ocean with aroma of great food wafting through your nostrils of great French food being slow cooked in eateries of high standard on the promenade. The French Cuisine served in French cafes on every corner with views of their pastries is sure to lure you like a powerful magnets with their crepes and baguettes ,off from the streets. Beware of death by chocolate. If it's not that then their cakes will .Caution through Moderation is advised. A day visit to Auroville about 8km away from the city center is a must. Trust me its another world created in 1968 by Shri Aurobindo the spiritual leader in the company of Mother and huge community of his devoted disciples from across the globe and is another world by itself . It was designed by famous architect Roger Anger for people from different walks of life to live together adopting values of sustainable living and unity. The Matrimandir is the most popular place in Auroville. This golden sphere sits at the center of some peaceful gardens. Its an edifice of spiritual significance for practitioners of integral yoga, that was established by the Mother of the Sri Aurobindo ashram and has come to be known as the  Soul of the City or  L'âme de la ville in a large open free space called "Peace." For those interested in Hindu temples a visit to Sri Manakula Vinayagar Temple many centuries old is an option . For History buffs there is Museum full of artifacts that will tell stories of Pondicheries culture and it's French connection in history The museum holds a treasure trove of ancient coins, French colonial furnitures, pottery displays, and many more . Last but not the least a visit to it's La Galerie D'Art or Tasmai Art Gallery rhat introduces works through galleries and cultural centers. It attempts to connect with the art happenings around India, thereby creating a bridge between Pondicherry and rest of the world through art and culture that easiky understood in deeper senses . Now nothing is going to stop you from wanting a make a trio here soon enough .Right?

Pondicherry day trip - I had a fantastic tour with my guide Nanda, he was very good and passed on lots of interesting information. Very friendly and attentive. The day itself was quite long but this was to be expected with the distance travelled. It was suggested to do Auroville visit first, which was a great idea as we missed the crowds and midday heat. The driver Venkadesh was also very professional and safe.
