Chiang Mai – Mae Sa (52 km)
Chiang Mai - Head north from the city along the Ping River. Soon, you’ll find yourself cycling through charming villages, rice fields, and flower nurseries in the countryside. With stunning views of the Doi Suthep-Doi Pui mountain range, you’ll ride into the Mae Sa valley, where you’ll spend the night in the lower valley. The upper valley offers many attractions, such as the Mae Sa elephant camp, Mae Sa waterfall, and the royal botanical gardens, which you can visit by taxi or bicycle. Be prepared for a 300-meter elevation gain over 7 kilometers if you choose to cycle.
Mae Sa – Doi Saket (45 km)
Mae Sa - Start your day by cycling back to the Ping River. On the way, you’ll pass the agricultural university in Maejo, where you can explore the campus. Continue to the Mae Kuang reservoir, where you can enjoy the tranquility and a delicious meal by the lake, such as fresh Thai papaya salad or barbecued fish and meat. Then, cycle through rice fields to reach Doi Saket, your destination for the day.
Doi Saket – Ban Pa Hiang (40 km)
Doi Saket - Before leaving Doi Saket, make sure to visit the temple of Doi Saket. The first part of the route is flat, gradually becoming sloped. Along the way, you can stop at the famous healing springs of San Kamphaeng for a relaxing bath or an affordable Thai massage. Continue cycling through peaceful side valleys to your unique accommodation near a beautiful golf course, where you can unwind after a day of cycling.
Ban Pa Hiang – Hang Dong (45 km)
Hang Dong - Begin your day cycling through a sparsely populated area with only a few farms. The solitary palm trees in the vast rice fields create picturesque scenes. As you return to more populated areas, you’ll pass through ribbon villages with traditional stilt houses. Cycling past the tallest standing Buddha statue in Northern Thailand and along irrigation canals, you’ll eventually reach the Ping River again. Follow the riverbank to your resort on the outskirts of Hang Dong.
Hang Dong – Chiang Mai (35 km)
Hang Dong - Start your day by cycling to the village of Ban Tawai, once famous for its artisan wood carvers and now a shopping destination for traders worldwide. Continue through fruit plantations towards the Ping River. Ride past the ruins of Wiang Kum Kam, a settlement that was the capital of northern Thailand over 700 years ago, before floods forced the capital to move 10 kilometers away to what is now the historic center of Chiang Mai.
