Riding horses in the clouds - Horseback ride on the way back up the mountain. We opted to do this despite the small extra fee, it was the perfect ending to an amazing day. The forest is gorgeous with all the fog and flora and fauna. David’s (our tour guide) background in biology gave us a unique perspective on learning all about the forest. Highly recommend him and the horses!!!

Hiking the Andes! - We are both novice hikers and not serious bird watchers. All we really wanted was time in the Andean forests, and that is what we got! The scenery was gorgeous and the views were breathtaking. And, that's not just the altitude talking!. Our guide, David, was not only knowledgeable about birds, but he was able to identify and educate us about the plants, insects, and animals we saw. We were unlucky with birds, but that could be because of the time of day. The only tip I would suggest is to be sure to bring hiking shoes/boots and not sneakers. At Chicaque, be prepared to start at the top and climb your way down via rocky trails. Some folkx opted to walk up the road, but we highly recommend taking the offered ride back up. We loved the day!

Walk Amongst the Clouds - Fabulous day spent in the lush forest. Parche Cachaco Tours with Adriana was a wonderful experience. This tour included a challenging hike to the Eagle Rock lookout and then continued hiking to the Refugio for a robust Colombian meal. We had tree arborismo (upward hoisting)and Zipline included. Great fun and exhilarating. Pickup was perfect, driver Fernando and naturalist Adriana were above and beyond friendly. Informative history lesson, patient, safe. You need to be ready for the 6 plus miles you’ll cover, lots of steep downward and upward steps on all paths. Very well worth the price for all that’s included. There were even post-Zipline snacks. Bring good traction shoes you don’t mind getting muddy.

Perfect tour! - Ginna and David met us early in the morning at our hotel and we were on our way to Chicaque reserve. Ginna is the owner of this company and she takes care of us like we are member of her family. David was our guide for the day. He's a biologist (so am I) and he's very knowledgeable. He talks a lot (I've finally met my match!!), knows a lot of anecdotes and makes this tour very enjoyable! We would recommend this company without hesitation. As for Chicaque reserve, it's a very beautiful place close to Bogota. A nice way to escape the hustle and bustle of the big city!

A must for nature lovers! - We had a fantastic experience on our tour! Hector (driver) and David (guide) met us at our hotel in the morning to pick us up. The drive to the Cloud Forest is pretty long but the vehicle was comfortable and Hector was a safe driver. David chatted with us most of the way, and told us a lot about Colombia. They had set us up at the restaurant just outside the entrance of the forest for a light breakfast of cheese, arepa, and chocolate (beverage). DELICIOUS! We then headed into the forest after signing in at the gate. We were so lucky to have David as our guide! He is a Biologist, and did his thesis on the birds in that forest! He was extremely knowledgeable about all the different birds, and pointed them out as they sang or called. He knew about many of the trees and plants as well. We opted for the ziplining and tree climbing package, and you should do the same!!! It was absolutely stunning and so much fun. So worth it!! After those 2 activities, we hiked back to the lodge for some really delicious lunch. The soup was out of this world. You have the option to hike back up to the top, or catch a ride. We opted for a ride since it started raining and we were already pretty tired. To wait out the traffic near Bogota, we found a roadside bar on our way home to have some coffee and beers, and we got to play Tejo (look it up)! A really cool touch at the end of our trip to hang out like a local. We were treated like friends/family the entire trip. This company and its employees were professional, and made sure we had an experience to remember for a lifetime! We took the coffee plantation tour through them the day before, and had the same wonderful kind of experience. If you're doing a tour from Bogota, BOOK WITH THIS COMPANY!! ***I would highly recommend eating breakfast before leaving the hotel, and even packing a substantial snack or lunch. After the provided breakfast, the next time you eat is at the end of the tour which was maybe 6+ hours of physical activity later. I'm hypoglycemic and needed more food than was provided, and had packed some snacks but not enough. ***We layered up for clothing, but I was stripping layers off within 10 minutes of starting the trail. Still better to layer and remove as needed, David told us it is sometimes really cold in there and you can't guess when. Regular gym shoes were fine, but expect them to get muddy if it rains. I would've rather had rain boots if I had room to pack them.
