An exceptional adventure - We were lucky enough to be with Guide Carlos Gonzalez Velez! We are Quebecers and we had our private French visit just me and my spouse! Mr Gonzalez is very experienced and has really a lot of knowledge and he took a lot of time to get us involved by asking us questions!! Really a beautiful and rewarding day

You must visit this Wonder of the World - Originally booked through our hotel agent Amstar. Chichin Ithaca was definitely one of the cultural places we wanted to visit on our stay in PDC.
Our tour guide was Beto, what can we say…. The most knowledgeable guide we could have wished for. From pick up to drop off you can tell the passion he has for his job, Chichin Itza & Mexican culture and he delivers this so well making the tour very interesting and he’s also got a great sense of humour.
Amado was also onboard catering for our every need. Coffee, pastries, fruit and juice available and then cerveza later.
It’s a good three hour drive from PDC to Chichin Itza and on the way we stopped in a Mayan town to visit a very large cooperative gift store. Beautiful items for sale, however, each couple/family group somehow get nominated a staff member who insists on following you around the store. Obviously there to share information but they are so pushy for sales. We would have bought more if she hadn’t have been bothering us so much. We purchased a ‘personalised’ pendant for our daughter then tried to find a necklace to go with. This sales woman was only trying to get us to buy the most expensive. The chains didn’t appear to be priced and when we went to pay they charged us £117.00 😬 we asked for a refund. Outrageous price. About four members of staff were there trying to work out how to set up the refund. We have kept all information, bus reg, receipts etc so we will be in touch if this doesn’t reach our account.
On to one of the Wonders of the World. Despite the torrential rain we were guided round by Beto. He has imparted so much information for us to take home and share. The only downside to the attraction is the number of street sellers selling their tat, constantly badgering you. Beto had previously advised about these people selling knock off Mayan gifts - probably made in China.
We had our tour followed by free time to roam and take photographs. If you want to take your Go Pro you will be charged $60USD but no charge for videoing on your phone?
After leaving there we went back to the same Mayan store for lunch. Nothing fancy, a buffet, and not particularly nice.
Then onto an open cenote where you can swim - we had already swam in a closed cenote and the weather was cold and raining so we chose against that. We had a nice wander around and took advantage of the tequila tasting.
We then had a short stop in Vallad.lid where you can have a look around this colonial town.
We arrived back at our hotel about 11.5 hours later.
Chichin Itza is definitely one of the places to visit when staying in this area of Mexico.
Despite the negatives, I gave 5* for the staff and driver who were incredible.

Chichen Itza Deluxe - brilliant experience - We booked this tour via our hotel (Royalton Chic) as wanted to go and experience some culture and see some wonderful sights in Chichen Itza and the Cenote.
We booked the deluxe package so there were no hidden charges as we read this was an issue in so many other reviews of other companies! More on this later though…
The pick up was prompt and we headed for the over 2 hour journey to Chichen Itza, stopping at a local shop, just before. The Chichen Itza tour was brilliant and went into a lot of detail on the history and astronomy knowledge of the Mayan creators. It was very hot though and we were thankful of stopping in the shade for some of the long talks. The temple itself is fantastic and of course got the obligatory selfies!
Food stop off was ok, but not good for vegans so we didn’t eat much. And was very hot.
We then stopped at Selva Maya Cenote and this was awesome to have a dip in and chill. Note here is where there are still hidden charges for life jackets and lockers - 65 MXN each…
Final stop off at Valladolid was lovely, especially with a nice coconut ice cream in the square 😊
The tour was made by an excellent and humorous tour guide - thanks Beto! And the driver was brill - thanks Sergio. The whole team were fantastic.
Would highly recommend.
