Huge time saver! - This tour was great! It’s a huge time saver compared to the larger bus tours, much more comfortable too! The driver and guide are both very friendly and accommodating. If I go back, I’ll definitely book a tour with them again. Great experience!

Amazing Experience- Exceeded Expectations! - We were a group of 7 adults, staying in Cancun, looking to visit the Chichen Itza Ruins and local Cenotes. When weighing our options, we felt that Pepe was the best option, and we could not have been more correct in our choice!
Pepe and Jose were MORE than accommodating to picking us up at our resort, and giving us an unforgettable day. Pepe was incredibly knowledgeable about the Ruins, providing unique insights from his years of experience and made the tour very enjoyable. More importantly, he was personable, friendly, funny and thoughtful- providing us ample water throughout the day to beat the heat!
He made a great recommendation for lunch, which all members of our group enjoyed. The buffet was fully stocked with traditional Mexican and Mayan foods. We then spent the remainder of our time swimming in a cenote at the sight of our lunch. Being with Pepe, we never felt rushed or on a schedule- everything was at our pace, which was especially nice.
Jose provided us safe transportation throughout the day.
Additionally, Pepe provided us a recommendation for an additional excursion, which we booked through him given our positive interaction with him during this tour.
I cannot recommend Pepe more, and implore anyone visiting the Ruins to book through Special Mayan Tours!

Private tour with an excellent guide - We had an amazing day trip to Chichen Itza with Pepe as our guide and Mag as our driver. We had two families with kids ranging from 7 to 11. They picked us up at our resort in the hotel zone and we headed straight to our destination. The van fit our group comfortably. They offered cold bottled water in a cooler and had phone chargers available. We beat most of the crowds to the ruins with this private tour since we did not need to pick up other riders. They have several stops that can be made for bathroom breaks.
Pepe answered all of our questions on the way to the ruins and provided a wonderfully detailed narration at the site. His English was perfect and easy for everyone to understand. After touring the ruins, Pepe recommended a cenote with an attached restaurant that was less busy since it was further away from the ruins. The food at Cenote Saamal was AMAZING! The buffet featured Mexican food with some traditional Mayan dishes. Swimming in the cenote was my personal favorite activity on our trip.
This is easily the neatest excursion we've ever taken on vacation. Thanks for the great tour!

Amazing Chichen Itza tour! - We went to Cancun with friends for spring break. I wanted to go to Chichen Itza while we were there, and found Pepe and Special Mayan Tours from a couple of different travel blogs. We could not have made a better choice! From the moment we were picked up in the morning we were informed and entertained about anything we asked about (which was a lot). Private tours may cost a bit more but the attention you receive is worth it, in my opinion.
It took us a couple hours to get to Chichen Itza, and Pepe helped guide us through admissions and the crowds that were around. He was informative, entertaining, and incredibly knowledgeable about everything. He took us to several of the main structures and really gave us an idea of what life was like and how the complex was constructed. It was incredibly interesting and I could easily have spent several more hours there (unfortunately, my family was through with the heat!).
After that tour was done, he recommended a location for lunch and a cenote where we could swim in order to cool off. The lunch offered an amazing buffet - fresh fruit, traditional Mexican and Mayan foods, as well as some options for our kids. Everything we tried was absolutely delicious, and getting to cool off in the cenote was just icing on the cake. We were given as much free time as we wanted there, and just floating in the cool water was a perfect thing after the heat of the day and the buffet lunch.
I would highly recommend Special Mayan Tours and Pepe, the next time we go back to Cancun we will absolutely be booking another tour with them.

Excellent daylong tour - We were a group of ten adults and one child on our first trip together in the Yucatán. Pepe Lopez, our guide, and Jose our driver, provided a safe, memorable, and friendly experience. Pepe is a native of Cancun, but spoke English like someone who had grown up in the USA. He was good humored and knowledgeable.

Wonderful tour with Pepe and Jose! - We truly enjoyed a private tour to Chichen Itza and Valladolid with the driver Jose and guide Pepe. Although the pick-up time was early (6:00 am), the guys were on time and off we went.... Pepe's knowledge of the Mayan culture and history was beyond what we expected. The tour was very educational and exciting, not your typical boring lecture. We almost had the entire archeological site to ourselves. Early morning departure is the way to go - we could not believe how big the tourist crowd was by the time we were leaving Chichen Itza. We were so happy that Pepe and Jose could accommodate our request to leave early. The lunch at the local restaurant in Valladolid was outstanding - the atmosphere, the food, and service - everything was excellent.

Chichen Itza tour, Ik Kil Cenote swim, and lunch in Valladolid - Excellent!! - Driver Mag and guide Pepe were fantastic! We were picked up at the Westin Laguna Mar at 7:30 am and returned to the same at 6 pm. Pepe got us primed during the 2+ hour drive to Chichen Itza with interesting facts and engaging conversation. On the way, we stopped for a to go coffee at the “Italian Coffee Shop”. We got to Chichen Itza early enough to beat the big crowds and took a very informative walking tour of the site from Pepe - excellent! Afterwards we beat the heat and again the crowds with a trip to the Ik Kil Cenote for a swim - very refreshing! It’s only about a 10 minute drive and worth the experience. Finally, we grabbed a tasty and reasonably priced lunch at the Hotel El Mason del Marquis in Valladolid. Afterwards, we took a quick walk around the Town square and grabbed some photos of the adjacent Spanish Colonial Church built in the late 1500’s. We had never ventured inland from the Hotel Zone and didn’t know what to expect. Valladolid was clean, orderly and inviting. The city has taken measures to preserve the colonial feel of the place - made us think about exploring other Yucatán locations. Drive back was quiet, we were tired - great day!

Amazing private tour with Henry - We had a private 3 hour tour with Henry as our private guide through Chichen Itza. His knowledge and information provided was beyond anything we could expect! I would highly recommend for anyone who has interest in an in-depth tour of Mayan culture and the ruins surrounding the whole complex. Henry was bilingual with excellent English and a native Spanish speaker.
