Chichen Itza Tour: Classic VW Beetle and Cenote Swim

Explore Chichen Itza, swim in a cenote, and stroll Valladolid with a pro photographer capturing your adventure in a classic VW Beetle.

Duration: 12 hours
Cancellation: 24 hours
Highlights
  • Chichen Itza - The first destination is Chichen Itza, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since the 1980s and recognized as a modern Wonder of the World in 2007. It is regarded as the most significant of the Mayan sites due to its buildings from two distinct Mayan eras, showcasing different architectural styles that reflect the evolving politics, beliefs, and culture from 435 AD to the Spanish Conquest in the 16th century. Additionally, it holds religious importance for the Maya as a pilgrimage site. Unlike most guided tours, Señor Travel Bug will guide you through both the older and newer parts of Chichen Itza, explaining their significance. The drive to Chichen Itza takes approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes, depending on the pick-up location.
  • Hacienda Oxman Cenote - The second stop typically includes one or two cenotes, chosen based on the visitor’s preferences, such as cliff-jumping, floating, or exploring cave structures. This stop can be scheduled before or after lunch, depending on hunger levels and the time spent at Chichen Itza, offering the flexibility of a private tour. Visitors can swim, jump, or relax in the cool waters of the cenotes, which are unique to this region. The drive from Chichen Itza to the cenote takes about 30-45 minutes, depending on the selected cenote that matches the individual’s or group’s style (calm or adventurous).
  • Kaua - Lunch will be scheduled either before or after the cenote visit, based on the visitors’ preferences. While the food is not included, the guide will offer recommendations based on their experience and knowledge, considering the visitors’ tastes and budget. Options range from street food and local restaurants where you can see tortillas being made, to high-end Mayan restaurants or even pizza places. The drive to the lunch location takes about 30-45 minutes, depending on the chosen cenote and restaurant, reflecting the travelers’ taste and appetite.
  • Valladolid - The final stop of the Mexican classic tour, in a Mexican classic car (or an alternative if preferred), is Valladolid, a ‘magic town’ or Mexican pueblo mágico. Valladolid is the closest Spanish colonial town to Cancun and the Riviera Maya, making it a worthwhile visit to experience another aspect of Mexico. We will explore the most charming streets of Valladolid, browse its boutiques, and visit the central square. Often, the day concludes with a refreshing drink beside the cathedral. The drive to Valladolid takes about 5-30 minutes, and after touring the magic town, the return drive to the pick-up point in Cancun, Puerto Morelos, or Playa del Carmen takes approximately 2 hours.

Additional Information

This tour’s itinerary is a staple of the Cancun and Riviera Maya area, but with two unique twists. You’ll travel in a Classic VW Beetle designed like a racing car (though a more traditional car is available if preferred), and your guide, a former professional photographer, will capture photos and videos throughout the day, which will be shared with you for free by the next day. A visit to Chichen Itza, the only Modern Wonder of the World in North America, is a must when in this part of Mexico. After a guided tour of the ruins, a refreshing swim in a cenote offers a unique experience exclusive to this region. The final stop is in Valladolid, where you can stroll through the streets and main square, perhaps enjoying a cool drink by the cathedral before heading back to Cancun.
