Amazing! - Please book Paul! We had 2 trips out with Paul this one with Chitchen Itsa and Cenote and also a full tour of Cancun (old and new). Both were amazing and made even more special because of Paul and his enthusiasm, knowledge, recommendations and just being a top guy. He also gave us tonnes of info for the rest of our holiday. The free photos and videos are a complete added bonus too! Brilliant!

Simply the Best Tour and Guide to Chichen Itza - TLDR: Let me save you some time. If you’ve gotten this far looking for a tour guide to Chichén Itzá, you should just book Paul now. You will not find a better option in all of Mexico. Honestly, book him for two different tours. You can thank me later.
Full Review:
If you’re like me, you want to go to Chichén Itzá, you’d rather not ride a bus, you prefer a more personal experience, and you want someone who knows what they’re doing. This is the service Paul provides and he is an excellent guide. My family (44m, 44f, 16m, 12m) took his Chichén Itzá tour over spring break and it was a highlight of our trip. (Even my 12-year-old son said it would be worth a trip back to Cancún just to go on another tour with Paul.)
Paul is an old school world traveler. He has lived in and visited cities and countries around the world. He has embraced the wonder that is the Yucatan Peninsula and he enjoys sharing his experience and knowledge. The drive is 2.5 hours one way, yet he makes the trip interesting and entertaining. He was very attentive to our needs and interests, and he wanted to ensure we had a great day. It felt more like spending the day with the friend of a friend, than a guided visit to a museum.
Visiting Chichén Itzá was an experience that will be a life long memory. With the early start, we walked into the grounds just moments after they opened, and were able to experience the highlights of the ruins before the crowds descended (and boy were there crowds). Paul provided excellent insight on the ruins and really helped to bring the history to life. He was able to give details and context you could never get in a group tour. We walked around the ruins for 3+ hours and there wasn’t a dull moment. (As we were leaving, the lines at the turnstiles coming in had to have been 100 people deep, and the buses were backed up waiting for spots to clear in the parking lot. Don’t get here late).
For lunch, Paul suggested a taco place that’s more popular with locals than tourists (La Tía De Kaua). It was amazing. If you like tacos, this is the place for you. There is no menu, just pork or sausage. We got both and ate enough for a small village.
After lunch, we hit up a cenote for some swimming, and it was just what we needed. Even in early April the temps were near 100F and the cool water of the cenote was refreshing. Our boys loved the rope swing, and were disappointed when it was time to leave.
Now we get to how Paul set himself apart from the other guides. Like most tours, we planned to visit and explore Valladolid next. The city looks very much worth a visit, but for several reasons, we just weren’t feeling it that day, and decided to head back towards Cancun.
Paul could have just taken us back to the hotel, finished up early, and I would have considered it a great day. Instead, using what he learned about us, he suggested an alternative place to visit on the way home. At his recommendation, we visited the Shrine to Mary Undoer of Knots. We had not even heard of the shrine before, but it was absolutely perfect. The shrine is gorgeous and deeply moving. In visiting it, Paul gave us a personally meaningful experience above and beyond any of our expectations.
I have had the privilege to travel to many places and I’ve had hundreds of guides, docents, hosts, park rangers, and the like. Paul is simply world class as a guide. He is the definition of professional, and one of the very best I’ve ever worked with. I recommend him without reservation and I would tour with him again in a heartbeat.
Book his tour, you won’t regret it.

Private VW tour Chichen Itza/Valladolid/Cenote with Paul - AMAZING Private Experience!
Our family of 4 (2 daughters 11 and 14) had an incredible day from start to finish. We started early and beat the crowds at Chichén Itzá, which was fantastic. Paul was an excellent guide—fun, engaging, and informative. He made the whole experience enjoyable for our entire family.
One of the nicest touches was that Paul took photos of us throughout the day—beautiful, candid moments we’ll truly cherish forever. It was so thoughtful and allowed us to just enjoy the experience without worrying about capturing every shot.
After exploring, we enjoyed a delicious traditional lunch in a more secluded, authentic spot. The food was amazing and served by warm, genuine people. Our girls especially loved it!
To top it all off, we visited a cenote—such a fun and unforgettable experience for everyone.
Riding in the bug was a blast—smooth and comfortable—and Paul was a very safe, cautious driver.
Truly a memorable day—off the beaten path, we couldn’t have asked for better, we are a globetrotting family and this tour is at the top of our list.
Thank you Paul, we will be back for another adventure very soon

Leveled up our vacation - Paul’s local knowledge enabled us to see, do, learn, and taste much more than we could have managed without his expertise. Amazing sights, great info, great conversation. Paul was prepared with all the supplies we needed, kept a good schedule that didn’t feel rushed but made sure we had time for everything we wanted, took amazing photos and video, and had local connections that made us feel like visiting friends, not tourists. He really leveled up our vacation!

A day to remember! - We had the most amazing tour with Paul. We wanted to go off the beaten track a little, see some wildlife and get a sense of how life in Mexico is. Well it certainly met our expectations and much much more. Beautiful Isla blanca, fantastic authentic Mexican food with beautiful views, a secret church and the delights of Cancun square- the day was full of truly unforgettable moments. Paul was very knowledgable with many interesting anecdotes from living in Mexico for so long. He took time and attention to understand what we wanted from our day as a family of four with a 6 and 8 year old. Even though we used the Q5 for most of the day which we chose for the AC, Paul kindly stopped at home at the end of the day to swap for the beetle for the last leg so we could experience it- just fantastic! Thank you Paul, we will be back again!

Fun times! - Our driver Paul was outstanding! He was knowledgeable about all the sites, as was Fabi our local Mayan guide at the ruins. The Beetle was very fun to be in. It was a little tight, but the ride was a lot of fun and brought some good laughs with the teenagers who foundly remember their grandpa's Beetle. Paul's pictures were great! He knew the best locations to snap family photos and had us smiling and laughing the entire trip, which is no small tasks with teenagers. Made a great local restaurant recommendation and was flexible with our stops and activities. I would highly recommend this tour or any other tour that Paul is doing or coordinating. If you are going to Cancun area, don't hesitate to hire him for any trip.

Unforgettable Experience - Our day trip to Chichén Itzá, the cenote, and Valladolid with Paul was truly unforgettable. From the moment he picked us up exactly on time at our hotel, everything was seamless. Paul is incredibly knowledgeable — he shared fascinating insights about every stop, from the rich history of Chichén Itzá to the hidden gems around Valladolid that we would’ve never discovered on our own.
What really made the experience stand out was Paul’s genuine passion for what he does. As a special touch, he also happens to be an amazing photographer! He captured beautiful, natural moments of me and my family throughout the day — memories we’ll cherish forever.

A whole week of memories made! - We asked Paul ( Señor Travel Bug) to plan a week-long vacation for our family.
Our goal was to stay in Cancún, but experience a wide range of highlights the region has to offer, as well as some typical resort vacation pleasures.
Paul carefully planned and recommended tours and activities, including important cultural sites like Chichen Itzá and Tulum, as well as some of the natural wonders of the region like different cenotes and wildlife reserves. We got to experience small towns and local cuisine, as well as some of the nightlife and beaches that draw tourists to the area.
Paul considered our wishes, preferences and budget when curating our itinerary. We were presented with options and projected costs for each day, so that we could make informed decisions and not be surprised by unexpected costs.
On our tours with Paul, we benefitted from his extensive knowledge of the area and his photography skills, which allowed us to document our adventures while fully focussing on the experience rather than having to take our own pictures.
Touring in the beetle certainly added to the fun!
Some days, we explored on our own, following Paul’s excellent recommendations of places to go and things to do in the area, including one day at an all-inclusive hotel to get a taste of this type of vacation also.
We could not have asked for a better week and our family made incredible memories!
For an attentive, knowledgeable, and fun expert of the Cancun area and beyond, we highly recommend Señor Travel Bug for all your travel needs. Muchas Gracias, Paul! Julia & Family

A wonderful day in Yucatan! - We had an amazing day with Paul! We highly recommend it. We had a fun trip to Chichen Itza where we learned about Maya culture, architecture and astronomy. We then had a great lunch at a spot almost unknown or tourists and followed that up with a refreshing jump in a cenote. We capped it off with a chilled walkabout in Valladolid.
While we were at lunch at an amazing off-the -beaten track place, we talked about not revealing our secret spots that we do not want everyone to know about. A trip with Paul is a bit like that, but I’d do everyone a disservice by not writing how much we enjoyed our day.
Paul is a cool and fun person but what we loved most is that it was focused on what we wanted to do and the pace at which we wanted to go. We felt Paul was part of our group and not the other way around. Finally, Paul’s love for Mexico was totally genuine and infectious and it makes us want to come back and try his other tours.
