It is a distinctive shopping street with a diverse array of businesses, including traditional portrait stores, military shops, souvenir stores, gaijin bars and restaurants, and a unique blend of Japanese and American atmospheres found only in Japan.
• Verny Park - The park is celebrated for its view of the Yokosuka Steel Works site, which French engineer Verny helped construct, located across the river, and for its French garden style. Within the park, there are busts of Verny and Tadamasa Oguri Kozunosuke, an accountant of the era, French-style flowerbeds, and Western-style bowers around the square. Approximately 130 varieties of roses, mainly French, with about 1,300 plants, add vibrant color. A boardwalk along the sea allows visitors to enjoy a stroll in the sea breeze. The park overlooks the main port of Yokosuka, where moored ships can be seen. From the park, the U.S. Navy base is visible on the right, and the Maritime Self-Defense Force Regional Directorate is on the left.
