Wonderful course for every level! - Katana My absolute highlight of my trip to Japan! I spontaneously booked 2 hours and my expectations were more than exceeded. The dojo is very easy to reach by metro. When I arrived at the dojo, I received a very warm welcome. As I don't speak Japanese, I booked the activity including a translator. She introduced me to the group. Sensei Tsurugi, his student and another assistant. After welcoming me, I was given training clothes and the course started shortly afterwards. The dojo itself is very well equipped and well insulated. The training was very well organised. Firstly, Sensei Tsurugi and his student demonstrated techniques. After that, I practised the procedures with the sensei himself and his student. The fantastic translator translated simultaneously and was involved throughout the training. In the first part of the training we practised with wooden knives, 2 knives defence, leverage and throwing techniques. Afterwards there was a break during which I was served a delicious dessert with freshly prepared matcha tea. During the break, I was able to learn more about the background of the martial art and the sensei. After the break, I was dressed in a classic "combat robe" for the exercises with the training (wooden) katana. The student then explained the anatomy of the katana to me. Next came more demonstrations of techniques and sequences, which I was then allowed to try out myself in pair exercises. As a further highlight, I was allowed to pose with a real katana (not sharpened) for beautiful souvenir photos. At the end of the training, I was even presented with a participation card with my name written on it by Sensei Tsurugi. I felt very honoured. I can warmly recommend the course to anyone, regardless of level, whether beginner or advanced. If I am back in Tokyo, I will definitely train there again. Ps. I then bought myself a Japanese oak katana to continue practising.
