Highlights
  • 67P8H4GX+J6G - With the guidance of a local professional, we’ll explore the key geographical features of Choachi. We’ll traverse various mountain paths in a 4x4 vehicle until we reach the starting point of our hike. The journey begins at an altitude of 2,600 meters and ascends to 3,200 meters (moderate difficulty).

Our trail takes us across the agricultural boundary and into the forest via the Laguna de Paramillo Trail. Midway, we’ll visit the stunning Tuche waterfall, fed by fresh moorland water. Enjoy the forest’s refreshing atmosphere and the pristine water within the unique high Andean forest of giant frailejones.

This forest is part of the extensive buffer zone of the Páramo de Chingaza, located on the western side of the Eastern Cordillera. The area boasts distinctive vegetation and biodiversity, offering a chance to spot the Cravings Bear among puyas, birds, endemic orchids, and the rare Espeletia Uribei, found nowhere else in the world!

For those in excellent physical condition, there’s an option to extend the hike to 3,800 meters above sea level (challenging route).

Additional Information

Mazafonte is a unique destination in the world. We will visit an endemic forest, full of giant frailejones (more than 10 meters), orchids and which we consider the home of the Andean bear. If you want a surprising place in terms of biodiversity and landscapes, this will undoubtedly be a place to be surprised.

This experience will be unique thanks to the accompaniment of the professional guide, who is not only a Biologist and will be able to tell impressive details of the ecosystems and landscapes visited. He is also a local guide and will be accompanied by another local guide, a member of the rural tourism association, who is in-depth knowledge of the territory.

This tour has a maximum capacity of 7 people, so we respect the carrying capacity of the environment, being able to enjoy the silence, tranquility and true stillness of the mountain.

If we are lucky and have good energy we will be able to spot the Andean bear in the middle of our route or see footprints and marks that will allow us to learn more about its ecology.
