• Cardboard Cathedral - The Cardboard Cathedral, officially known as the Transitional Cathedral, serves as the temporary pro-cathedral for the Anglican Diocese of Christchurch. It replaced the ChristChurch Cathedral, which was heavily damaged in the 2011 Christchurch earthquake. Designed by Japanese architect Shigeru Ban, it opened in August 2013. The cathedral is situated on the former site of St John the Baptist Church at the corner of Hereford and Madras Streets in Latimer Square, a few blocks from the permanent ChristChurch Cathedral location.
• Christchurch Botanic Gardens - Known as the Garden City, Christchurch is an Anglophile settlement with well-maintained gardens and tree-lined streets. Its highlight is the 52-acre (21-hectare) Christchurch Botanic Gardens, beautifully located within Hagley Park along the meandering Avon River. The gardens boast thousands of exotic and native plants and trees, including seasonal blooms like magnolias, azaleas, and 250 varieties of roses.
