Best experience around Tulum - My boyfriend and I were eager to see the beautiful birds around Tulum and Miguel surprised us with almost 50 species we heard and saw. The best were the two species of toucans which we saw about 20 birds of, some from a distance of about 4m. Miguel has the best intuition and hearing ability to spot the birds around and his telescope will let you see the birds up close. We had the most amazing morning and will come back for another tour for sure!

Awesome birding experience! - Miguel was an enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide and a great conversationalist as well. Able to ID birds by sound and then locate them visually. He loaned me better binoculars and had a scope as well. Very excited to see 60 species in just 3 hours! I’ve birded in South America and did not expect to add so many birds to my “life list”. I highly recommend Miguel and this tour!

Well organized and great birding - Our group of 5 enjoyed the morning with Miguel, who was both personable and knowledgeable. The trip was well organized with a van following us and available with food and water. We saw a good variety of birds.

Amazing birding, great guides! - I did two tours with Amar Aves and they were both great. I booked a private guide for both. My boyfriend and I did the Coba tour with Jose. He was a great guide and found us lots of amazing species, including the Ruddy Crake, Purple Gallinule, Gartered and Black Headed Trogon, Morelet's Seedeater, and many more. We got to a count of 53 for the day, which was great! Birding the pond was really cool, and we saw lots of water birds up close, including Limpkins too. At Coba we saw all the ruins, we got to take bikes to bike around to see everything, which was a happy surprise. I thought we might just see a couple of the ruins that were near where we were birding, but there was time allocated to bike around to everything, which was great as my boyfriend is more into ruins than birding. We also tacked on the cenotes stop, which was really cool to swim under stalagmites and refreshing after a hot morning of birding. For the second tour, I went solo with Miguel on the Muyil tour. Miguel is an incredible birder, super knowledgable and has a keen ear. Birding in Muyil area was really good, we saw lots of species up close, including: Squirrel Cuckoos, Keel-billed Toucans, Blue Bunting, American Pygmy Kingfisher, 4 species of orioles, and many more. We got to a count of 57 for the day. The Muyil ruins were closed, which the tour company had told me in advance, but I was good with that, as I was keen to focus just on birding for the morning. Birding with Miguel was really fun. And he even shared some photos from birding afterwards. I'm really into birding and always keen to learn more. Both Jose and Miguel take the time to point out the field markings with you to help identify different birds, and will point out different calls to help you get used to them. There was very limited use of callbacks, which is great. Both Jose and Miguel kept track of the birds on ebird and shared the lists afterwards, so I could focus on birding. I would highly recommend booking with Amar Aves.

Wonderful bird watching experience - We got Claudio as our guide. He was extremely experience and was able to point out all the birds accurately. We managed to see fifty plus birds in total, Fox, moles and many others wildlife around Sian Ka’an area. Me and my partner thoroughly enjoyed it and will highly recommend bird watchers to join this tour

Great birding! - Squirrel Cuckoo, the two Mot-mots, Ocellated Turkey and the collared Aracari were our mega-twitches of the day!! José Paz is one of the best birding guides with whom we've had the pleasure finding new birds !!

Great Birding with Amar Aves - Our two-couple party had a fantastic time birding with Miguel. We started on the quiet streets of Muyil, where morning birds included Collared Aracari, Keel-billed Toucan, Black-headed Trogon, Turquoise-browed Motmot, Ferruginous Pygmy Owl, and a variety of orioles (among many others). After a local lunch, we headed onto the trails of the nearby Muyil Maya site, which was full of beautiful northbound warblers more familiar to us from the summer woods of the US. So cool to see them on their journey. We also opted into the boat and float, which was amazing (we found the Gray-crowned Yellowthroat on the hike back). We had so much fun that two of us signed up for a trip in the Toh area near Puerto Morelos two days later!

Bird tour and culture - I went with Miguel to Coba and Muyil this week. Despite me doing my homework and having knowledge of some species, Miguel’s expertise and knowledge of bird calls was superb and helped me find numerous sought after species. He was also considerate towards my family’s needs and explained cultural and historical aspects of the tour. He went above board to ensure my 5 year old was entertained and saw as much as possible. Highly recommended.
